About this deal

Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. Especially as, I believe, this has been a reverse adaptation with the TV series coming before the book.

If you are seeing this message, it is because you are viewing this site on a browser with limited support. Back in February, a teaser confirming a third run with a sketchy graphic of Elba looking intense was enough to send fans into a frenzy.

He went on to describe the Luther villains as “avatars of my fears and anxieties” and suggested that once he’s “isolated that fear” that’s when he starts to think about who could step in to fulfill this as a character. A John Luther who will go to all and any means to find the man who slaughtered an entire family just to have the mother's unborn child. Now this novel was written with Idris Elba in mind as John Luther and certainly you can imagine Elba acting out the scenes – even if these scenes go a bit further than we’d see on the screen.

What was interesting was that the author wrote the screenplays first, and then the novel, with the actors in mind, apparently. This was a good read with characters and actions that are dark and disturbing, which made for some uncomfortable reading in parts. He thinks of standing underneath a great railway bridge as a locomotive shrieks overhead, the shocking power of it. But because I did have the benefit of reading this whilst picturing Elba, and hearing his voice, then I quickly came to terms with the style, and became engrossed in the story. It is the story of the case that tore his personal and professional relationships apart and propelled him over the precipice.

Then there's Elba, who has gone from post-Wire lull to blockbuster star, with roles in Prometheus and Thor, and an upcoming stint as Nelson Mandela in Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom. Dark and unsettling, The Murder Bag features a tough, determined detective who has to remain unaffected by such violent scenes for the sake of his investigation and for his daughter.Cross for this great thriller and dedication to creating a new and exciting crime thriller series that will leave people gathered around the water cooler for weeks and months to come. By the end of the book, you feel as if you’ve participated in an emotional and psychological marathon.

This is a powerful, propulsive, high-octane thriller with an exciting, heart-pounding chase near the end and a desperate hunt to save a dying, captive child. Only DCI John Luther and Detective Superintendent Martin Schenk appear in both the TV show and movie and the plot is entirely standalone. I want a listen I can enjoy but I personally can't enjoy listening to the kind of cruelty that was portrayed here, it was too way disturbing and not necessary. He opens his front door and hits the lights—but lingers on the threshold, backlit by the chandelier. His previous works include Historical Dictionary of the Reformation and Counter-Reformation (Scarecrow, 2010) and John Calvin (Routledge, 2011). Once the scene had been set, then for the very first time in all my 'Luther' experiences, I was able to correctly predict the outcome.
