About this deal

You can apply it from April to the end of September for outdoor plants. For indoor plants, you can use it all year round.

Organic control methods may be the best route to go down if you catch an infestation early on. You can tell when you’ve caught it early because the damage to your boxwood plant is minimal. Perhaps you’ve noticed a few caterpillars appear, or you’ve seen some defoliation, but the majority of the plant’s leaves are still intact. Growing Vaccinium in Containers- Growing the other Shrubby members of the Blueberry Family 30/01/2023TOPBUXUS Xentari is the best biological insecticide for the job. After using this on my box hedge in the past, the caterpillars stopped eating the treated leaves within several hours, and the damage rapidly reduced as the caterpillars began to die off (within a couple of days). Pesticide control The RHS believes that avoiding pests, diseases and weeds by good practice in cultivation methods, cultivar selection, garden hygiene and encouraging or introducing natural enemies, should be the first line of control. If chemical controls are used, they should be used only in a minimal and highly targeted manner. The female weevils lay their eggs in the compost or soil among host plants. As a rule, this happens in August and September, though a lot depends on the weather during the previous winter and spring. In a mild year, egg-laying could start in early summer. Each female is capable of laying 1000 or more eggs. These eggs are less than 1mm across, white at first, later turning brown. They are difficult to see and much smaller than the granules of controlled-release fertiliser found in container-grown plants, which are often mistaken for insect eggs. If you are keen to try this product do so here. A product that can help in the garden, especially if other pesticides have not worked in the past. OK, so hand removal doesn’t sound all that fun. But when you’ve noticed the start of an infestation, hand removal may be all you need to control their numbers. Simply put on some protective gloves and get to work, removing each caterpillar by hand.

If you well ventilate the home, you can use it both indoors and outdoors. What is recommended is that you do not apply the insecticide more than 4 times a year on the same plant, as this can damage the plant beyond salvation. HOW TO USE Box caterpillars are the larvae stage of the box tree moth, so they are also commonly known as box tree moth caterpillars. Vine weevil can feedon a wide range of plants, both indoors and outdoors, but can be especially damaging to plants grown in containers. It is a verywidespread andcommon insect. The adult weevils eat leavesduring spring and summer, but it is the grubs that can cause the most damage over autumn and winter when they feed on plant roots. This damage can resultin wilting andplant death. Please note: only approved for use on ornamental and flowering plants growing in containers. It cannot be used on soil in the garden or on edible crops.Provanto’s bug killer is best used in the early morning or evening, after a single application, you will start to notice a marked decrease in the number of bugs and weeds on your plants and vegetables. To prevent bugs from reappearing, aim to deliver two-to-three treatments a year to any vegetable plants. Use a clean, disinfected spray bottle to apply Xentari. Spray it as soon as you notice the first caterpillars on your box hedge, both on the top surfaces of the leaves and the undersides, too. Natural Garden Solutions produce a wide range of naturally-sourced, chemical-free products – and they’ve become a huge hit with more eco-conscious gardeners. I recently tested their Organic Plant Bug Spray, and the results surpassed my expectations. A product based on scientific research can control a wide range of insects from aphids, caterpillars, whitefly, scale, mealybugs and red spider mites. If you’re like me and hate killing any animal, you may be disinclined to “dispose” of them using either of these methods. Unfortunately, box caterpillars leave you few alternative options! While you could normally leave caterpillars and other insects out for the birds, our native birds don’t like box caterpillars much.
