About this deal

My favourite characters in the book are Myrtle and Fing. I like Myrtle because she is funny and I like Fing, because he bit Mr Meek’s finger. This is a really amazing book. This follows on from the success of Grandpa’s Great Escape, Awful Auntie, Demon Dentist, Ratburger and Gangsta Granny. All went straight to Children’s number one on release with Gangsta Granny and Billionaire Boy selling over a million copies to date.

Stuffed flea. It was so small that it was impossible to see. Turnip shampoo. It made your hair smell “as fresh as a turnip”. Elf. Finger puppets of every king and queen of England from 1066 to the present day. Gravel collection. It was the biggest in Europe. From the first, I had the feeling this was one of the WWC series, expanded. This was the first time my son has bought a Walliams' on day of publication, as he's such a fan of every other by the author (we've only missed out Awful Auntie). It's taken around 10 nights for me to read it to him, and he's enjoyed it. As well as his Children’s fiction, David has also published four number one bestselling picture books, his latest, The Bear Who went Boo! was published in November 2015 and has had total sales of over 85,000 to date. The Queen’s Orang-utan, David’s third picture book was written exclusively for Comic Relief with David giving all of his proceeds from the book to the charity. The story itself is ridiculously simple: brat wants 'Fing' as pet. Parents acquiesce. Parents find said potentially destructive pet. (SPOILER!!) Destruction occurs. A World's Worst Children-like 'serves-you-right ending for spoilt brat' also occurs.Added to all this, David’s books have achieved unprecedented critical acclaim: Awful Auntie, Ratburger and Demon Dentist won the National Book Awards Children’s Book of the Year and in France David was awarded the popular Tamtam for Mr Stink and the prestigious Le Prix Du Livre De La Jeunesse for Ratburger, so it comes as no surprise that countless broadsheet reviewers have compared David to his all-time hero, Roald Dahl. This story is about Myrtle, who wants a Fing and how her parents, Mr and Mrs Meek, try to find one for her. We spotted our beloved Raj twice (once as a graphic on a bus, and once Walliams shoehorns him in, even saying he's done it to place the beloved newsagent in the story). Always a highlight, but certainly not enough to help raise this up from 'meh' rating to the bestselling status it will instantly earn without the merit of Walliams' previous heartfelt and genuinely funny inventions. The story centres on the Meek family. Mr and Mrs Meek, who are quiet, sensible librarians, and their daughter Myrtle. Myrtle Meek ’ s parents give her everything she could possibly want, and will do anything to keep her happy. But when Myrtle declares she wants a Fing, there ’ s one big problem … What IS a Fing? !

His most recent fiction title, The World’s Worst Children, published on 19th May 2016 sold over 340,000 copies in the UK alone. It went straight to No. 1 on release where it stayed for 4 weeks and also concurred Children’s Books charts, where it stayed at No.1 for 7 weeks. Internationally sales continue to thrive, The World’s Worst Children also went straight to No. 1 in the Australian children’s chart and remained there for three consecutive weeks and reached the No. 1 in the overall book chart in New Zealand.

The front cover of the books says: “ Fing is an explosively funny tale” - something the children agreed with unanimously. As well as being a No.1 best-selling Children’s author, David Walliams is one of Britain's most popular writers and comic actors. So this review is not from his perspective - an 8 year old will love this: bum/poo jokes, lots of noises and silly creatures, things being destroyed, lists. It's also half the length of most of Walliams' recent novels, but still with regular Tony Ross sketches, so does speed along. No, it's great for the target market. Meet the Meeks. They are funny and people who don’t give up to please their daughter, however dangerous, impossible or an “ARE YOU CRAZY?!!!” situation they are in. Who is this daughter? Her name is Myrtle and she is an absolute HORROR! David Walliams is fast becoming a global phenomenon in the world of children’s literature – his ability to wow fans is unprecedented with global sales over 14.1 million.

Mr Stink, Gangsta Granny, The Boy in the Dress and Billionaire Boy have all been adapted into TV comedy dramas. David’s books have also been made into theatre productions including Mr Stink, Gangsta Granny, Ratburger and The First Hippo on the Moon. Fing is the latest book from the bestselling author David Walliams, and is beautifully illustrated by Tony Ross. Mr and Mrs Meek like to keep a peaceful household, and do their best to avoid confrontation with their strong willed child. Myrtle, on the other hand, is very good at loudly demanding everything she wants. And more and more and more of it.

Pupil reviews

I wanna teddy bear!” I wanna pony!” I wanna suitcase full of money!” The girl would make such a din that the little Meek family house would actually shake. One of the characters in this story is Myrtle. You might think she’s cute, but she is a real nightmare. The story is about Myrtle who gets anything she wants from her parents. Her father, Mr Meek, goes to the deepest, darkest, jungliest jungle to get her a…fing! I would recommend this book to anyone who likes comedy and adventure. Little Britain’, which he co-created with Matt Lucas, started on Radio 4 and soon progressed to BBC1. The show has won numerous international awards including three BAFTAs, and now plays in over 100 countries. ‘Little Britain Live’ performed to a million people in the UK, Ireland and Australia. David and Matt followed ‘Little Britain’ with the hugely popular spoof airport documentary series 'Come Fly With Me'.
