About this deal

Firstly, it looks pretty good. It has a nice filmic look with plenty of detail. Colours are rich and vibrant where necessary, while never looking artificial and there's a lot shadow detail. It can appear grainy at times however this is natural and doesn't distract. The make-up and effects look suitably gross. HDR is subtle and natural. The film does have a slightly softer look to it but it's still quite impressive.

NEW The Queer Lens (HD, 43 min) is a conversation with Bryan Fuller and Amanda Bearse talking about the unintended queer undertones and the community that embraced the film. Audio Commentary with Writer/Director Tom Holland, Actors William Ragsdale & Stephen Geoffreys, FX Artist Randall Cook, Moderated by Journalist Jeremy Smith and Filmmaker Tim Sullivan NEW: A Novel Approach: The Splatterpunk Story of the Fright Night Novelization – Tom Holland, Fright Night novelization authors John Skipp and Craig Spector, and publisher Mark Alan Miller discuss how the progenitors of the splatterpunk genre came to work on the book, their writing process, and the novel’s enduring legacyTom Holland’s Fright Night is one of those 1980s films, like The Howling and Re-Animator, that fearlessly blends horror and comedy into one fetching confection. This requires a delicate balancing act to prevent one mood from undercutting and thus negating the other. Making his debut as a feature filmmaker, Holland acquits himself admirably. The comedy aspects shine through owing to sharp writing and a game cast of both seasoned veterans and talented newcomers. On the other hand, the efficacy of the often gloopy horror elements can be ascribed to a crew of makeup and visual effects personnel who were fresh off making the immensely popular Ghostbusters. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has set the DC Universe animated title Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons for 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray release on 10/18. NEW: A Novel Approach: The Splatterpunk Story of the Fright Night Novelization – Tom Holland, Fright Night novelization authors John Skipp and Craig Spector, and publisher Mark Alan Miller discuss how the progenitors of the splatterpunk genre came to work on the book, their writing process, and the novel’s enduring legacy But the extras don’t stop there. First off, there are several roundtable discussions that play like outtakes from You’re So Cool, Brewster!, as well as some panel discussions and screening Q&As. Then there are a couple of brand new pieces: a lengthy 35th anniversary table read of the film’s screenplay, an enjoyable featurette on the novelization process (as well as the recent reprint of the Fright Night novel by Encyclopocalypse Publications), and a truly fascinating conversation between Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller and actor Amanda Bearse about the gay subtext and context of the film that really digs deep into the material. Overall You're So Cool, Brewster! A new two-hour version of the definitive 2016 documentary on the making of Fright Night, focusing on the first film, created exclusively for this release

Writer/director Tom Holland had made inroads in Hollywood as a screenwriter, penning Psycho 2, Class of 1984 and Cloak and Dagger to great acclaim. He came up with the notion of combining Rear Window with the story of a teenage boy—a horror movie fan—who discovers his next door neighbour is an actual vampire. In those magic times, Columbia Pictures took a chance on him, let him direct and greenlit it.
