About this deal

Around 5% of Triangulation Pillars have no Landranger map number associated with them. This could be because they are in Ireland or because the pillars are destroyed or even because they are non-typical OS pillars, such as those associated with the Great Glen project. Parked by the disused Punch Bowl pub on the B6423 and walked up Shire Lane to a well hidden stile on the left. The all round views today were superb. The Triangulation Pillar is now surrounded by a new fence encircling the field containing the pillar Parked in a layby near the Church on edge of Hurst Green and took a short walk to the trig. Easily accessible just off the path in a field Revisit in memory of my old friend Granville Bell (Granni to his friends) who sadly passed away on Saturday 18/07/2020. This was the first trig pillar we did together on the 13/09/2011 after doing the 3 rivers meet walk, Hodder,Calder,Ribble.

Full route, map and GPX here: Harry Hut + Lantern Pike Trig Walk From Hayfield | 10-Mile Route Margery Hill + Outer Edge walk from Langsett Margery Hill trig point Rob, of Peterborough, completed a list of 6,190 trigs and celebrated his achievement with 29 friends and fellow trig baggers in 2021.I parked along the un-made up road and walked the final bit through soggy grass to the pillar. Nice views from the area, nice and tranquil. If anybody is thinking of visiting this by the coastal route..don’t, unless you wear waders. No path as it is on the edge of the estuary and about as muddy as muddy gets. Not too bad coming in from the north, still muddy but ok. Very wet in the field where the trig is too. All will be fine in a drought no doubt The UK network of concrete pillar triangulation points was built and measured between 1936 and 1962 by the Ordnance Survey, for a project known as the Retriangulation of Great Britain. This smaller file lists the pillars and some roof bolts in the primary network, whose measurement led to the seamless mapping we enjoy today. The original trigpoint numbers, names and OSGB coordinates are given.

The Visitable option will filter all trig points whose condition is equal to 'Destroyed', 'Possibly Missing' or 'Inaccessible'. Select [Yes] to avoid hunting for trig points that are no longer there! The data was provided by the Ordnance Survey who have kindly their given permission to post on the web. A fairly high score despite the trig being so accessible. Liked the seats nearby and the view over the sea and Ribble.Need more help planning your Peak District trip? 9 Multi-Trig walks for Trig Baggers Birchen Edge Trig Point This 10-mile trig walk includes three of the Staffordshire trigs and takes you on a lovely circular route to include them all. Solo from roadside parking about 2 miles E of Newdrop Inn (SD 66355 39606). A pleasant walk which took me 45 mins. Parked near to the church to make a bit of a walk of it. Pleasant views of the Ribble valley in soft evening light. Had a drive up to nearby Stoneyhurst College afterwards, which always looks very daunting for a school. The footpath skirts an idyllically situated property and then follows the public right of way across a field, frequently occupied by friendly cows. They’re easy to shoo away!
