About this deal

Finally, Beca, sixteen years old, artistic and musical but not good at lessons, constantly at odds with perfectionist Elin who sees education as a gateway to the world, she knows she is about to fail all her GCSEs and disappoint her mother, again. Love, mess, secrets; this story of four generations of women is shot through with Ruth Jones's warmth and wisdom. A big warm blanket of a book. I loved it Jojo Moyes All families have their problems. And most of them get resolved. But Grace’s problem is thirty years old. And she doesn’t have time on her side. Is it too late for her to make peace? Or is reconciliation still within reach? Ruth Jones: Not too much; like I mentioned, New Quay is a physical place that was quite an inspiration, and when I was writing about Dylan’s Quay, I would imagine that place quite a lot in my head. There’s little things that happen in the book that I’ve drawn from – there’s a particular story I’d taken from Justin Davies who played my son in Stella. Sometimes you collect things like a magpie and you think “Ooh, I’ll keep that!” What Grace really wants is to find her daughter Alys; mother of Elin and absent from the family for thirty years. Alys left under a dark cloud, and as far as Elin is concerned, she has no mother. Becca doesn’t even know that her grandmother is still alive.

Everyone thinks they know the truth, but they are all keeping secrets, will Grace's party be a joyous reunion or a day of tears and recriminations? Female characters that cross over many generations always makes for a great read, and in this novel from Ruth Jones, her latest that is no exception. There’s a lot of warmth and comfort that comes with reading your work. Maybe I’m being biased because I’m Welsh…And when she finds her - if she does - she risks betraying granddaughter Elin. Who is far less forgiving of the past, with its hurts and secrets and lies. Meanwhile Grace's great-grand-daughter Beca is oblivious to all these worries, too busy navigating the highs and lows of teenage life and keeping secrets of her own. Magaru, Rod (September 17, 2016). A novel to truly read and compare to our own family? Definitely! Show me one family that doesn’t have hidden skeletons! Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. This book looks at multi generation female relationships and familial ties as well as what bonds and binds mothers and daughters. Told from different points of view, this book is measured as it builds on all the past and present frustrations that all the characters have. It shows how complicated and complex any relationship can be, but also how wonderful and uplifting even in the darkest moments that the maternal bond gives you. Ruth Jones, most commonly associated with Gavin & Stacey but with two well-selling novels to her name already, writes with such warmth and conviction, and readers can find solace in the comforting use of humour and familiar Welsh settings and phrases. Love Untold is an emotional account of how secrets and regrets tear away the seams of family relationships, each revelation and plot twist teaching us a lesson in the power of forgiveness. A grounding read, heartwarming and devastating at once. All families have their problems. And most of them get resolved. But Grace's problem is thirty years old. And she doesn't have time on her side. Next granddaughter Elin. The most serious of the four. The prime and proper headteacher whose daughter fails all but two exams and a husband who runs to play hippie. The affair of Greg I find slightly daft. Due to how much I liked them as a partnership. Can they pretend it never happened? Even the ever serious can have the breakdown the biggest of one. Especially with her estranged mum. Sometimes hard to like making her evermore a brilliant character. Ruth Jones: I’ve got to get on with the fourth book now, so goodness knows what I’m going to come up with for that! But I was in this position before Love Untold. I didn’t know what it was going to be. So I’m taking comfort in that – that I’ll be able to come up with an idea, even though I haven’t got a slightest idea! Ruth Jones is best known for her outstanding and award-winning television writing, most notably BBC One's Gavin and Stacey, which she co-wrote with James Corden and in which she played the incorrigible Nessa Jenkins. The 2019 Christmas Day special of Gavin and Stacey gained national critical acclaim, drawing an audience of over 18 million, winning a BAFTA for TV moment of the year and a National Television Award for Impact. Ruth also created and co-wrote Sky One's Stella, which ran for six series. Ruth has starred in several other television comedies and dramas.

A film review published in Bandera of Philippine Daily Inquirer noted that Barcelona: A Love Untold is not just a kilig movie, giving it 8 out of 10 points. [21] Maureen Marie Belmonte of Push said Barcelona: A Love Untold marks a new era for Kathryn and Daniel because it makes moviegoers appreciate them not just as a bankable love team, but also as bona fide dramatic actors who have successfully gotten past their teenybopper roles. This is a wonderful story about the relationships between different generations of women within the same family. The conflicts and emotions are real and raw and you’ll find yourself relating to so many arguments and points of tension. Grace is about to turn ninety and she doesn't want parties or presents or fuss. She just wants a quiet celebration: her daily swim in the sea and a cup of tea with granddaughter Elin and great-granddaughter Beca. More than anything, she wants to heal the family rift that's been breaking her heart for decades. Ruth Jones: Yes, I like that. I really do. I’m glad that it comes across; I do try, and it makes me feel better about life when I write in that way. I think there’s enough nastiness in the world as it is, and I don’t want to add to it! So yes, my writing is pretty gentle, I guess. I tend not to have villains, and I still believe in the whole thing that there is a little bit of good in the worst of us and a little bit of bad in the best of us. There is Becca, not academic and knows that her exam results are not going to please her mother. Nothing much will it seems, but finding her true self is much more important and in that she also finds her love for her music.

Ruth Jones’ third novel is another warm, heartfelt story, filled with strong and joyful female characters that captures the challenges and joys of relationships and family. Ruth Jones writes with such warmth you can't help but fall in love with the characters she creates. It's always grounded, always real, always comforting, always ultimately full of love' James CordenI was also interested in the whole mother-daughter relationship. I just love creating Welsh characters, I suppose. Grace is 90 years old and she’s very much inspired by my mum. She’s inspired a lot of Grace’s characteristics: that kind of attitude to life, getting on with it and making do and mend. So yeah, I took a lot of inspiration from my mum’s attitude to life!
