About this deal

Newly single lawyer Gwen Baker is hoping that a family Christmas - countryside, a mountain of food and festive films - will salve the sting of her career hanging by a thread and her heart being trampled on. Because everyone else has their life sorted: even Dev, her boy-next-door crush, is now a tall, dark and handsome stranger with a fiancée. She can't help wishing her future was clearer. As part of my work with UN Women, I have started reading as many books and essays about equality as I can get my hands on. There is so much amazing stuff out there! Funny, inspiring, sad, thought-provoking, empowering! I’ve been discovering so much that, at times, I’ve felt like my head was about to explode… I decided to start a Feminist book club, as I want to share what I’m learning and hear your thoughts too.

The characters are well-defined despite not being too layered. What we see is enough to understand their essence. Gwen has a few not-so-nice mom After the incident with the sexual harasser client, she’s forced to take a mandatory leave which also pushes her to question her life choices. Why she has to spend her time at a job she hates? Maybe she deserves second chances in her life. Last year, Gwen had been happy, expecting to be married to her boyfriend in the then-near future, but that’s over. He dumped her for the receptionist. Gwen had also felt fulfilled in the law firm where she’d worked for years, although overworked enough to have ended up on mandatory leave, and is beginning to question if she ever wants to return there. She’s dreading having to be near her sister, who will also be there with her husband and children, as they rarely have even a civil conversation. She’s also dreading having to talk to her father about her thoughts on leaving the company and finding another job that would be more fulfilling.

Then Gwen wakes up to discover it's Christmas day all over again. Like Groundhog Day but with turkey. And family arguments. On repeat. As she figures out how to escape her own particular Christmas hell, Dev is the one bright spot. He might be all grown-up but underneath he's just as kind and funny as she remembers.

The Christmas Wish is Lindsey Kelk's best yet. I couldn't have loved this romantic, festive, brilliantly funny novel more' ROSIE WALSH Lindsey Kelk has hit the sweet spot with a festive romcom that’s Groundhog Day meets The Family Stone ’ Stylist Absolutely screamingly hilarious, full of Christmas-y sparkle and a lovely boy-next-door romance, but with some serious depth to bring you all the feels' LIZZY DENTAs she figures out how to escape her own particular Christmas hell, Dev is the one bright spot. He might be all grown-up but underneath he’s just as kind and funny as she remembers. will salve the sting of her career hanging by a thread and her heart being trampled on. Because everyone else has their life sorted: even Dev, her boy-next-door crush, is now a tall, dark and handsome stranger with a fiancée. She can’t help wishing her future was clearer. The book has a great combination of British humor, relatable characters, witty lines, weird circumstances and a whole feel of wholesomeness. As anyone can guess from a time loop for Christmas, the main goal is for the main character to straighten herself out and find her potential again and each recycled day is giving her a new perspective by helping and listening the people around her. It is almost like a crash course for reimagining yourself and how she goes through things is mostly fully relatable, though personally, I'd enjoy reliving the same day a bit more! Then Gwen wakes up the next day to repeat Christmas Day all over again. Someone made a wish, and it’s up to Gwen to find out and fulfill it. This turns out to be an eye-opener as Gwen realizes that there were many things she didn’t know about her family. Also, she wonders if she is living the best life when it no longer makes her happy. Can Gwen find what she wants for Christmas while helping her family truly come together as a unit? I’m glad I went into the prepared to read it more as Women’s Fiction than romance. Right expectations are important to enjoy the book.
