The Surgeon,” Wolfe’s recent release and the fourth addition to her Standalone Books, suggests to me that she is experimenting with genre boundaries with this novel’s remarkable twisty twists and unreliable narrator writing technique. That is hardly new to the scene since many of today’s household names broke new ground when they adopted versions of some degree of deviation from the old genre boundaries of the “psychological thriller” to forge their own stylized calling cards. Dr Anne Wiley has a successful career as a cardiac surgeon. No patient has died in her operating table. She is married to a lawyer who is set out to become mayor. But someone is out to get her. Leslie Wolfe is a renowned novelist from the United States, who likes to write thriller, fiction, and suspense novels. She has written some very successful novels over the years of her writing career. The novels that author Wolfe has written are divided into two different series, the Alex Hoffman series and the Special Agent Tess Winnett book series. Author Wolfe is highly praised for creating the characters of Tess Winnett and Alex Hoffman. In addition to writing suspense and thriller novels, she has also penned a few standalone books. The books of Wolfe have done great businesses in all the places of their publication. They have managed to attract a large number of readers from different parts of the world. Because of her unique style of writing, characterization, plot settings, and story descriptions, author Wolfe has received praises and appreciations from many prominent critics and established fellow authors. Wolfe thinks that she has grown as a writer over the years and has become much more dedicated towards her work. She has planned to publish several more of her books in the coming days and is currently working on finishing the development work of a few of them. One of the strengths of “The Surgeon” lies in its well-crafted characters. Detective Gabriel McRay is a complex and flawed protagonist, haunted by his own demons while relentlessly pursuing the killer. Leslie Wolf’s attention to detail in character development brings the supporting cast to life, each with their own motivations and secrets. As readers, we become emotionally invested in their journeys, adding depth and authenticity to the overall narrative.

Assistant State Attorney Paula (didn’t catch her last name when listening) is waiting in the corners for something to happen. Then it does. A man died on Anne’s operation table. For no obvious reason. By chance she sees the face of the man while operating and recognises him. A man who has haunted her since she was a teenager.

The Surgeon

Omg … had me thinking about the ending for two days afterwards!!… a twist that I did NOT see coming! ” Goodreads reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My hands tremble inside their gloves. I slide down the cold tiled walls, my heart racing in my chest. Readers of psychological suspense (or the “Domestic Suspense”) novels these days are incredibly savvy for the most part and can ferret out the genuine “clues” or breadcrumbs that are dropped along the way and smell a “red herring” from a mile down the road. Personally, I do think that the use of what I refer to a dueling first person narrators make it a little more difficult. My rationale is that I keep having to remind myself that one or both of them may be “lying like a rug”. I did, however, thoroughly enjoy all the medical details as always so I tried to ignore the domestic drama and focused mostly on that.

I was clinging to it word for word!… suspense, intrigue, action, murder, mystery, betrayal, and some crazy twists and turns!… kept me glued to my Kindle!… Definitely don’t miss out on this one!” NetGalley reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Dr. Anne Wiley is a very successful surgeon. She is very successful in general. She is married to her college sweetheart who is now a lawyer. She is the face of the hospital, literally, on billboards across the city. She had never lost a patient on the operating table—until today. She also never recognized a patient on the table—until today. Finally—she never wanted a patient to die—until today. Gone Girl” by Gillian Flynn: Explore the twisted relationship between a husband and wife as secrets and lies unravel in this psychological thriller. With its surprising twists and turns, this book is guaranteed to keep you hooked. The narration of the book could be part of my issue. It’s hard for me to parse out whether Anne was written to be perceived as weak or if the performance of the book overly highlighted that trait. Whether Paula was genuinely so dislikable or if the narrator did such a good job making her so that it pushed her over the edge.Such a gripping thriller that kept me awake all night, trying to finish the book!… This book was completely mind-blowing and I was literally hooked from the first chapter till the end, wanting to know what is going to happen next!” Goodreads reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I love Wolfe’s plot twists . She’s a master of them… I always give 5 stars to an author who can trip me up… Wolfe gets all the stars for getting me MORE THAN ONCE! … I could go on and on and on about what I loved about this .” Goodreads reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ In this surprising but refreshing new approach by Wolfe, I was both happy and disappointed. There are a few “What the?” plot twists that I felt were from remarkably unlikely to downright implausible or unbelievable. The main protagonist of Dr. Anne Rider was far less lovable and downright grating on my nerves well before the 75% mark. I cannot elaborate without potentially leaking a spoiler. I can say that the primary protagonist of Anne presented as too perfect and righteous 99% of the time, and I can also disclose that one of these two ladies (?) are unreliable narrators with egregious lies of omission. Completely gripping and intense!… jaw-dropping twists, and a blow you away ending make this one you can’t miss.” NetGalley reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The hand grenade which launches the plot into the stratosphere is Paula’s relentless attempt to figuratively cut off Dr. Anne Rider’s head and mount it on her wall as a well-earned trophy. It amounts to child’s play to make a calculated guess as to the motivation of the “Pit Viper” Paula. That is a “Duh!”

What a suspenseful read! … my heart is racing! … from cover to cover, I was hooked. I devoured The Surgeon in less than 2 days!… absolutely perfect! ” NetGalley reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Wow! What a read! Such an amazing story! It was impossible to put the book down … Hooked me from the very beginning … My jaw dropped … Absolutely perfect! ” Goodreads reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Dr. Anne Wiley is a cardiothoracic surgeon who lost a patient, Caleb Donaghy, on the operating table. She has never lost a patient on the table until now. Did Anne call death too early? Could she have done more? Something was not right. I alternated between the e-book and the audiobook narrated by Gwendolyn Druyor. My concerns with the audiobook were either the narrator or how the book was intended with the two main characters.
