About this deal

I broke ❤️‍🩹 for the way that both Lyla and Lachlan were willing to give up everything for one another and all that they experienced. The plot, the spice, the second chance relationship element of their story, all of it, it was beautiful and utterly consuming!

The hero is my favorite character in this book. He loves the heroine so much, like more than anything. I can see it and i can freaking feel it! Like he really needs her like an air to breathe. Like she’s everything he needs. I lost count on how many times he declared and say his love and his obsession to the heroine🥺 Too many! And it’s freakin romantic it made me cried🥺 I want that kind of husband😋 I seriously loved this book! Until I Get You is the story of Lachlan and Lyla who are both college students. Lachlan is super popular and riding high when he meets Lyla who completely rebuffs his advances. But he's persistent and eventually Lyla caves and they fall in love despite Lyla's insistence they keep their relationship secret. She has a terrible secret she's afraid to tell him, but on the day she's supposed to tell him, Lyla disappears. Lachlan's life falls apart, but he's relentless in his pursuit and eventually finds her 3 years later, seemingly living her best life. And that's when things get interesting. Until I Get You starts out as a college sports romance, then turns into a romantic suspense/darkish romance. I am not always the biggest romantic suspense fan, but Claire Contreras does it so well. This book hooked me from the start and was impossible to stop listening to. Fast forward three years later and Lachlan has finally found Lyla again. He's not letting her get away this time. I love a good possessive/obsessed hero and that's exactly what Lachlan Duke was. Was it a little over the top at times? Sure. But I didn't even care. I loved how much he loved Lyla. He might have been intense and obsessed but he was also completely devoted to her and I was here for it. I love those 'touch her and die' vibes. Lyla was great too and so strong. They were perfect together even though they had a lot standing in their way.

Lyla also does things like go to a party KNOWING that she will be running from the villain. But later, when he’s chasing her, she’s like “I’m wearing heels, so it’s hard to run away.” Why did she wear heels if she knew this was going to happen?!! This girl makes aggravating choices. I already created an IG account for Lyla, friend-requested them, and posted two pictures of us together. I’ll have to tell her about the account later, so she can hear it from me and not them. OUT OF DESPERATION, OFTENTIMES, WINGS ARE FORMED. As I gazed at my vehicle, trying to ignore the icy temperature, it was the main thing on my mind. It seemed to be an act of vandalism at first sight, but I knew better. I took a deep breath and moved forward, round to the driver’s side as glass crunched beneath my feet. Before getting into the driver’s seat, I opened the door and wiped it clean with my T-shirt. The smoke filled my vehicle as soon as I closed the door, and I had to gag. It was an immediate, primal response. I closed my eyes tightly and clutched the duffel bag on my lap tightly as I attempted to power through it. The chemistry between these two was amazing. The underlying tension around Lyla’s trauma and her unnamed abuser was captivating. I also appreciated the theme around mental health - healing from trauma is messy, and we see that in Lyla’s story. Definitely recommend.

Lachlan is oh so very arrogant when we first meet him and his possessiveness for Lyla is everything But, I found myself struggling to stay interested. It was too long with too many mundane scenes that should have been cut. I managed to not DNF just because Lachlan was kind of fun, and I wanted to find out how this would become "dark." I was waiting for the other shoe to drop with Lachlan, but that didn't amount to much. At first I thought maybe this could have the vibe of Torment: Part One, in terms having a tense and slow-lead up to the hero becoming increasingly deranged. But no, not really! This was just....slow. I lost count on how many times he proclaimed his love and obsession to her cause its many! The hero loves everything about the heroine. Always saying that many times🥺 Her body, her soul, her heart, her eyes, everything. He wants her all the time, every time she dressed up or shows up in whatever clothes she wants, his hard for her immediately and can’t stop. He always say that if he doesn’t have her now then he will die lol. Seriously the hero’s love for the heroine so freakin big❤️❤️ He was still a little bland. But, his thought process was often funny – like, I took out my phone and Googled how long I’d go to jail if I kidnapped her. I'll try to organise my review in two parts, the first one being spoiler free, and the second filled with all the spoilers, all the tea and my pissed off ramblings, so stay tuned for the juicy part 😂💪The whole premise relies on the evil psycho stalker to have all kinds of connections and no one bothering to investigate all of his misdeeds. You're telling me that his police chief buddy is willing to cover up rape, murder, stalking, etc. for him? Fine, even if he was... not a single other officer cared to step forward and oppose him when they saw evidence of foul play? OK, even if they weren't... what about STATE POLICE OR THE FBI? Why for the love of god did NO ONE bother to even try reporting his crimes to a higher agency? Why, when the heroine's mother was killed, did the heroine keep quiet? The car accident would have provided EVIDENCE that could have been used against him. But the heroine keeps quiet and doesn't even bother telling her dad who was supposedly a decent father before her mother's death that night? No, the heroine decides she's better off keeping her mouth shut because she's scared no one would believe her. Once again, I'll play devil's advocate and say that she was too young and dumb to make the right decision at the time. Why then would she have stayed in the same state/area as this man for so many years? This girl was doing college classes online, her family was loaded, she had a trust fund she could use, why didn't she move far away from him after he killed her mom, her boyfriend, and raped her? Why did she stay in the same small town, all while he was continuing to stalk her? She literally had ALL THE OPPORTUNITIES to leave, which was demonstrated by the fact that she graduated (after taking all online classes) and immediately left. That had been her plan anyways. Why does it matter where she took her online classes from? She probably could have easily transferred to get away from him...but instead she stayed put and let him continue to have access to her? MMMkay. Lyla and Lachlan’s story is an emotional rollercoaster to say the very least. Lachlan is the guy who can love them and leave them, Lyla is the girl who is closed off for… reasons. These are not two people you think are going to have an instant draw to one another, and yet. Lachlan gives boy obsessed/falls first a new meaning. This man is smitten for Lyla even though she doesn’t plan to give him the time of day. Clearly this is a romance, so it doesn’t quite go as she plans, but alas. This book, while emotional and sweet when it comes to their love also has some heavy/dark themes that it explores. I was on the edge of my seat towards the middle and end of this story for multiple reasons. I don’t want to spoil anything, so I’m pretty much leaving it at that, but know that this one gets intense and covers dark topics. I just thought the romance was going to be dark and have a stalker/obsessive hero, and that just isn’t what the book is. It’s dark-ish I suppose because of the heroine’s past. I also didn’t put it together before starting this that I had read a handful of books from this author before that hadn’t worked for me either. I didn’t like that we get told about their connection more than we get to see it. I don’t know, this just was underwhelming and not what I expected it to be. The audio is on hoopla though and it’s narrated by Joe Arden and Kasha Kensington which helped. Before MCs met, H was a huge manwhore. She had a stalker who killed her mom and ex bf, the stalker also raped her. Fast forward three years, and Lachlan has finally found Lyla again, and he's not letting her get away this time.
