About this deal

The judges were impressed by Savoia Americano Rosso’s “rich and aromatic” notes on the nose, combined with it being “nicely bitter and herbal on the palate.” Gluten is a protein compound found most commonly in the grains wheat, barley, rye and oats. Wheat and barley are often key ingredients in producing drinks such as beer and in sealing wine casks. Gluten free drinks avoid using such products. To label as gluten free the product must have below 20 parts per million of gluten, which is barley a trace! A vibrant blend of 12 sustainably sourced botanicals carefully chosen to capture MOUNTAIN flavours including Cherry Blossom, Rosehip and Strawberry. Crafted for pink gin drinkers. The drink is free from any animal products or derivatives. In addition the bottle, label and glue is also free from animal products. The flight closed with 11 Silver medals, which included Betty Buzz Meyer Lemon Club Soda, Banks Herbarium and Pink Grapefruit Tonic, and White Tea & Calamansi Cold Brew Nitro Tea.

This bottling is based on the Australian brand’s cult favourite, Bloody Shiraz Gin. It was created using an alcohol-free base of highly concentrated Shiraz wine, alongside botanicals including Tasmanian pepperberry leaf and citrus. In the Lower‐Alcohol (26% to 30% ABV) round, Beefeater Botanics Lemon & Ginger walked away with an impressive Gold medal. MOUNTAIN and light tonic is a deliciously aromatic non-alcoholic alternative to a pink gin or glass of rose wine. The data came from IWSR’s No‐ and Low‐ Alcohol Strategic Study, which looked at 10 countries: Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, South Africa, Spain, the UK and the US. In terms of volume, the low‐and-no sector rose by 7% in the regions in 2022. The figures are testament to the ongoing consumer interest in low‐and‐no products. The most common process of making no and low ABV spirits is, actually, very similar to that used for alcoholic spirits — hence the similar price tag.

Created to be paired with rum, Tequila or whisky (alcoholic or otherwise), or enjoyed on its own, this Gold medal-winning ginger beer from Gossip Girl star Blake Lively’s mixer brand offers the clean, fresh taste of ginger with just the right balance of spice. Furthermore, it was praised for having a “delicious balance of sweetness with a lovely, lingering aftertaste.” For the perfect low-ABV serve, pair this with San Pellegrino Blood Orange to create a simple yet effective Garibaldi. The first panel to gather at the Ibis Styles hotel in London Bridge comprised: Antony Moss MW, qualifications director at the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET); Joyce Yu‐Hua Chou, translation project manager at the WSET; and Melita Kiely, editor of The Spirits Business and chair of The Global Spirits Masters Competitions, who led the group. Anora Group gained two of the three top awards for OP Anderson Original (1891) and OP Anderson Klar. The former entry was found to have “plenty of caraway on the nose”, leading to a “tangy and earthy palate with a slight nutty hint, white pepper and earthy warmth”.

The judges also awarded 12 Gold medals in this heat. Four Pillars Bloody Bandwagon was one of the Gold winners, enjoyed for its “sweet, red‐berry” nose, with a “good level of dryness and complexity on the palate – even when mixed with tonic water”. Seedlip Spice also found favour with the judges, winning a Gold medal. Tasting notes included: “Clove oil, cinnamon, and warming Christmas spices.”

Gold‐winning Ceder’s Wild was found to be “complex, with ginger and woody spice”. Smith said: “It mixes well and has good potential with soda, tonic, ginger ale, Coke.” Drinkers are switching out full-strength spirits for lower-ABV alternatives The third group consisted of: Rosie Lees, co‐founder and director of Nineteen94; Sara Jane Eichler, founder of Negroni Club UK; and Matt Chambers, spirits writer and co-founder of the Whisky for Everyone blog, who chaired. Ten Silver medals completed the flight, including medals for Glory Mornin’ Super Vivid, Lyre’s Agave Blanco Spirit, and Siegfried Wonderleaf. Mountain is the vibrant, aromatic expression of the Everleaf family. Created with pink gin drinkers in mind, it’s made with 12 sustainably sourced botanicals. Fresh floral notes combine to transport your mind’s eye to the top of a crisp, cool-aired mountain peak alive with spring blossoms. Post-hike spritz, anyone? In the following flight – Non‐Alcoholic Dark ‘Spirit’ (less than 0.5% ABV) – three Golds and three Silvers were awarded. This product is made with natural ingredients. A bit of settling is natural—shake to combine and refrigerate after opening. The next flight to be sampled was Low‐ Alcohol (6% to 25% ABV). The judges were impressed by Savoia Americano Rosso, awarding a Gold medal. Lees found this to be “rich and aromatic on the nose, nicely bitter and herbal on the palate. Delicious balance of sweetness with a lovely, lingering aftertaste.” Two Silver medals were also awarded in this flight, with one going to Merser Small Rum, and a second to Vegvisir.
