About this deal

I wish I could have bottled it all up to enjoy a few months from now…just like I’m planning to do with this homemade pear liqueur. Simple Syrup - a simple syrup is just equal parts water and sugar stirred over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. To add to the warm fall flavors, I used a turbinado sugar. Turbinado sugar retains more of the natural molasses flavor of the sugar cane.

The weather was spectacular today. Frost and fog early on gave way to a gloriously sunny afternoon. The autumn foliage here in the mountains of western Maryland has never been more beautiful. At sunset, the thinnest imaginable crescent moon hung in the sky, illuminating clouds that looked like wisps of smoke. Fresh pears:You’ll just need one ripe pear. Mine was slightly underripe and still made an absolutely delicious liqueur. The fun part about making your own liqueurs is that you can experiment and create a custom flavor. Feel free adjustany of the ingredients to develop your own "secret" recipe. It's difficult to go wrong, especially if you do the daily taste test. Step 2, is needed when you feel your Pear Liqueur is not sweet enough. This can happen because of pear variety or ripeness. I try to cook using only organic ingredients and fresh organic produce. Of course this is not always possible... but I do make the effort. Great homemade gift:Your friends and family will absolutely love getting a little bottle of this liqueur from you. They’ll be thanking you again and again once they try it!

When the liqueur is ready, get a fresh, clean container and strain out the pear and vanilla beans using a funnel and a fine-mesh sieve. Shake well and set aside in a cool dark cupboard for a further week, making sure you give it a shake every day or so to get that sugar to completely dissolve Vanilla beans:You’ll need 1-2 vanilla beans. I like these organic vanilla beans from Cook and have them on hand at all times.Wash and chop up the pear, discard the seeds and the core. You can peal the pear and if you choose to do it before you chop it. I like to leave the skin on I find that it gives the Peas Liqueur more depth and flavor. I love Zaar! I have so many wonderful friends here and I really enjoy being a Forum Host. I love the games in the Contest & Events Forum! The games are addictive and a great opportunity to meet the members of this community. I had a blast co-hosting the first Zaar World Tour 2005 with ~Leslie~. Zaar World Tour II doubled in size and ~Leslie~ and I were joined with co-hosts Mamas Kitchen and kzbhansen. Zaar World Tour 3 doubled again in size and Leslie, Mama's Kitchen and I were joined with SusieD, PanNan and JustCallMeToni! We also established the "Whine and Cheese Gang" which was a wonderful team that was put together to help all the teams playing. Zaar World Tour IV will be bigger and even better!!! Vodka:Start with a high-quality 100-proof vodka. I recommend looking for one with a quality you’d want to sip!

Perfect for the holiday season:This drink is made for the holidays! It’s rich and sweet, and the hit of vodka will really warm you up on a cool winter’s night! After either step one or two depending when your desired flavor is achieved. Carefully strain the liquid through several layers of cheesecloth.

Review and Tasting

I love hosting the Beverage Forum! As a former bartender and bar owner I am right at home mixing and shaking it up. I love cooking with spirits and experimenting with new drinks and making liqueurs. Stop on by the Beverage Form and see what we are up to. Relatively inexpensive:Although vodka is a bit pricey, you can use inexpensive 100-proof vodka, regular sugar, and 1 single pear to make a batch of this homemade liqueur! It’s much cheaper than grabbing a bottle from the store. Homemade Poached Pear Liqueur is a favorite amongst my family and friends. It is an ideal homemade gift so the true challenge may be how much to hide in your closet before the rest disappears like magic! More Liqueur Recipes Like This I was just recently married in Costa Rica to KC and his 6 year old son, Ty. Our wedding was perfect and I will cherish the memories forever. Leslie, Mama's Kitchen, sassafrasnanc, Mommy Diva and Chef V attended the wedding with their husbands!! Leslie's daughter Sarah was our flower girl and her hubby Wayne was our talented musician! I had the time of my life!!!
