The Last of Us will have a total of nine episodes, the first episode premiered on HBO and HBO Max in the US on Sunday, January 15 at 9pm ET – it aired simultaneously in the UK at the same time on Sky Atlantic in the early hours on Monday, January 16 at 2am GMT. In this episode, sometimes, you get scenes with the resistance – whose side we never saw in the game, since it’s all about Joel and Ellie’s survival. I will also add that the early morning scene features a clip of Sarah in school, but as it’s 2003, they have to suffer a fate worse than zombies – having to put up with a picture of George W Bush on the wall! Henry and Sam’s story is similar-ish, albeit condensed into episode 5, but this time, Sam tells Ellie that he’s been bitten on the leg, whereas in the game, it’s a surprise to everyone. In the series, Ellie tells him because of her immunity, her blood is “medicine” and attempts to patch up his leg by smearing some of it on his cut.Pedro Pascal ( The Mandalorian, Wonder Woman 1984) and Bella Ramsey (HBO’s His Dark Materialsand Game of Thrones) star as Joel and Ellie. Gabriel Luna ( True Detective )as Joel’s younger brother and former soldier, Tommy; Merle Dandridge ( The Last of Usvideo games, The Flight Attendant) as resistance leader Marlene; and Anna Torv ( Fringe)as Tess, a smuggler and fellow hardened survivor. But now let’s get onto the massive elephant in the room… the casting. Oh, boy…. I’ve certainly mentioned this a time or two in my videos, here, but let’s be brief so as to save my fingers.
Similarly, in another scene not in the game, we’re introduced to Ellie who’s chained up for reasons not yet explained – unless you’ve played the game and know what makes her unique. However, in the game, we don’t see Ellie until Joel’s been to see Marlene and is tasked with taking her to the Fireflies, who offer humanity a chance for salvation.
I thought they’d made a featre-length finale, but it’s only 43 minutes, making it the shortest episode in the whole series! It’s nice to see the giraffes, though…
