Huh, look at that… after a fairly bumpy road with my last tries, a Tessa Bailey book finally did it for me again. Full disclosure, I was not a fan of book one Secretly Yours. It was cute, but not my cuppa. It was missing a little something to fully enrapture me. But this book? This book grabbed me by the heart and my ovaries and owned me from cover to cover. If you have never read a Tessa Bailey book before just know that her steamy scenes and dirty talk should be the industry standard. Wow. These two characters nearly set my book on fire. I have so many of Tessa Bailey's books on my keeper shelf. But I've come to realize that with the exception of the Bellinger sisters books, the Bailey I loved is no more. I loved Indie Bailey, the one that didn't try to squish her intense super possessive dirty-talking heroes into a rom-com format. Three woman who join together to rent a large space along the beach in Los Angeles for their stores—a gift shop, a bakery, and a bookstore—become fast friends as they each experience the highs, and lows, of love.

The epilogue was perfection! I don't want to spoil it, but seriously, August made me melt all over again. He would do anything for his family! You're going to love it!My feelings for Unfortunately Yours by Tessa Bailey are ALL over the place: Part of me sort of loved it and part of me rolled my eyes the whole time. With my rating, I sort of met in the middle, but rest assured, this book is eons better than Secretly Yours.

August also works through some struggles. As a military man, he's not good at feeling helpless. He was there the day Sam died and has lived with guilt ever since. It was his job to protect Sam, and he failed. So the winery is a way for him to honor and atone, in a way. But August feels he needs to do this on his own and ends up shutting Natalie out, which further triggers her feelings of not being enough. Eventually, August realizes he made mistakes and makes it his mission to fix them. Watching him work through this was really lovely. The banter, the humor, the jokes! It was perfection! The absolutely hilarious one liners got me every time. Underneath all the humor though, August and Natalie are two people hardened by life on the outside but marshmallows on the inside. Their relationship works so well partly because they both can be brutally honest with each other and that they have an extreme sense of loyalty. It also helps that August is a literal Sex God 🤷🏼‍♀️ It was so beautiful to watch them drop their guards and fully dive into their “sham marriage”. Tell me the truth. You thought I would throw you into missionary, come in sixty seconds, and fall asleep. Didn't you?"When I buddy read Secretly Yours, I was instantly attracted to Natalie and her dry sense of humor. Seeing her and August interact in the first book was hilarious and once I knew she had her own book coming I was practically salivating waiting for it!
