La principale chaîne arménienne est Arménie 1 (H1), la télévision publique. Imaginée en 1955 par le conseil des ministres de l' Union soviétique et créée en 1956, elle continue d'émettre aujourd'hui, non seulement en Arménie, mais aussi dans le reste de l' Europe, en Russie, en Australie et aux États-Unis.

L' Empire romain d'Orient, dit byzantin, conquiert la moitié occidentale de l'Arménie en 1045 alors que la moitié orientale est soumise par les Turcs Seldjoukides qui, en 1064, ruinent l'Arménie byzantine et continuent d'avancer vers le reste de l' Asie Mineure. Malgré la renaissance zakaride dans la seconde moitié du XII e - première moitié du XIII esiècle, des milliers d'Arméniens partent en exil pour s'établir dans des régions plus prometteuses telles que la Moldavie- Transylvanie, la Hongrie, la Pologne-Biélorussie-Ukraine, Chypre, divers ports de la Méditerranée et surtout la Cilicie où ils fondent en 1137 le royaume arménien de Cilicie qui prolonge la souveraineté arménienne jusqu'en 1375.
