About this deal

Those individuals are experiencing false memories. More specifically, they are experiencing the Mandela effect. The Mandela effect is the existence of specific false memories that can be shared amongst large groups of people. A third theory as to why Doveland seemingly vanished from existence is that Doveland might have been destroyed by a “military science experiment that went horribly wrong”. This sounds ominous, to be sure, but is most likely speculation from those who think the “rule of cool” applies to the real world. One last quote put it succinctly: “As someone who has lived in various places in Wisconsin for over 30 years and has been in the Army, never once has any single person ever mentioned Doveland.” A city that at this time was scattered into separate rural townships due to the failing economy, or a military city that was abandoned once it was out of operation. Some have suggested ‘Project Sanguine’ of the ’80s as an explanation for Dowland’s sudden disappearance. Dolly Öesterreich was a happily married woman on the outside... but the secrets she kept in her attic tell a very different tale.

So, what happened? Was Doveland destroyed by a dam? Did it fall into another dimension, possibly as a result of the uncompleted government project code-named Sanguine? Or was it always just an online hoax? Let’s start with when talk of Doveland first arrived online — because, it turns out, much of the water the story holds is dependent on that detail. Here’s what you get when you bring up that location in Google Maps: The Truth About Doveland, Wisconsin and Its Disappearance The town fell into another dimension, or we shifted to a reality where the town had never existed; think Mandela Effect.”

A post from a now-deleted (and, uh… questionable, from what I can tell) Tumblr that’s been preserved thanks to a reblog from a different, still-extant Tumblr contains most of the information available about the Doveland, Wisconsin legend. I’ll quote the post at length, in the event that the Tumblr I found the reblog on eventually gets erased from the internet, too: Here’s what’s real: Project Sanguine. Project ELF, too. In fact, Project Sanguine is perhaps best thought of as the blue sky version of Project ELF — the Platonic ideal version, the version that arose from brainstorming without the need to consider limitations. Both were U.S. Navy projects intended to facilitate communication with deep-sea submarines — although one never quite got off the ground, and the other has since been declared obsolete. mystery #truecrimeirl #truecrimesleepstories #truecrime #truecrimecommunity #truecrimepodcast #truecrimeaddict #truecrimejunkie #truecrimeobsessed #truecrimememes #unsolved #truecrimepodcasts #truecrimestories #truecrimeallthetime #truecrimeandchill #buzzfeedunsolved #kellibrink #kelliberensbrink #truecrimegarage #crimejunkie #podcast #morbid So, we have a town that people remember but which apparently never existed. Several theories have been suggested that might explain the disappearance of an entire town. The first theory is that Doveland was destroyed by an earthquake which could have caused a massive sinkhole that swallowed up the town.Firmly nestled in the quiet midwest of America, Wisconsin features plenty of charming small towns with picturesque families living the American dream. These communities are usually tight-knit and perhaps a bit isolated, making them especially vulnerable to even the smallest of changes. With that in mind, it’s not hard to imagine such a small town dying out for any number of reasons. According to Redditor Reconsct, they and their two best friends were traveling near Snowshoe, a mountain and ski resort in West Virginia, when they got “ very lost.” Eventually, they came to a little town that was “absolutely deserted. I'm talking not a single sole [sic] to be seen anywhere.”

Werner is by no means the only town in America to meet such a watery fate, but it has led many to hypothesize that perhaps Doveland now sits at the bottom of a lake, no memory left behind in the name of progress; however, we know Werner existed, as evidenced by maps still accessible today.Outside of memories and stories from relatives there are also ephemera such as mugs and shirts bearing Doveland's name. [1] In the heart of Wisconsin there was once a small town called Doveland. But then something strange happened. Doveland disappeared in the 1990s. That is right, an entire town with buildings and residents vanished in thin air and left nothing behind. According to what is almost certainly a piece of anonymous fiction originally published in 2015 on the blog Strange State, the town of Urkhammer, IA, was once a bustling (if strangely silent) little burg. But it was always weird, even when it was at its most active, and the stylized account describes aerial photographs which “showed only empty fields where there should have been homes and streets and stores.” A town or unincorporated settlement that was destroyed by damming, similar to Werner. However towns that 'vanished' this way were historically well documented. [3]

For example, the Ukrainian city of Chornobyl was the location of a nuclear accident that destroyed the city. But there are still abandoned buildings and signs of life that once thrived in the city. An image of a house made uncanny through glitching on Google Earth suggests the liminal-digital status of Langville, Montana. There is also the Glitch in the Matrix subreddit full of personal accounts of the universe behaving strangely. Things like items disappearing and then reappearing, items somehow becoming duplicated and other things that are just not quite right. The thing that really keeps the legend of Doveland going is that without fail, you’ll see someone on social media claim to have souvenirs from a town called Doveland – shirts, mugs, etc. That’s more than enough for some conspiracy theorists, but the fact remains there just isn’t any concrete evidence – such as any mention of the town on a map or in an official document of any kind – that proves Doveland’s existence. Nor are such vanishing towns limited to real-life examples. Fiction gives us everything from the fabled Brigadoon, which comes and goes, to places like Silent Hill, itself based on the real-world town of Centralia, PA, where coal fires still burn underground. Our fascination with such places often leads to situations in which we may be confident that a town was once in a place, even if it wasn't.A second quote repeats much the same information: “I just learned of all the noise surrounding Doveland, and I think I can add some insight,” the quote says. “Doveland was a small town in Wisconsin that housed a lot of military families. My father lived there for a year or two and spoke of it occasionally. The main thing I remember is that it had to do with ‘Project Sanguine’ in the early 60’s.” However, this quote also goes to note that the reason for the town’s alleged disappearance wasn’t “X-Files type stuff”; rather, it’s thought that Doveland was “destroyed after an incident” of some kind. “I thought they were digging up a ton of land for something and they flooded the town or something, but this is a rehashed secondhand memory from years ago,” the quote reads.
