Vanne, Chris D. (November 4, 2018). "Summer joins Netflix Sci-Fi drama Wu Assassins". Archived from the original on December 9, 2018 . Retrieved January 17, 2019.

What conversation?” I demanded. I felt out of the loop, which always made my mouth get dry and palms sweat. I know I've mentioned it twice already, but this book was just so much FUN. I haven't read a true middle grade novel in a while, and I forgot how genuinely comforting they feel. This book reminded me of the simple joys of being a kid and the endless possibilities of summer. Even if I wasn't a summer camp kid, I still felt nostalgic for the times my brother, cousin, and I would play together all summer long. The treasure hunt was really clever and I loved Ryanna's determination to see it through even when it was difficult. Glau was cast in the recurring role of Miss Jones on the Netflix crime drama series Wu Assassins. [12] [13] Personal life [ edit ] I frowned—this didn’t sound right. “I thought you met on the set of your movie. That’s what you always told me.”

Goldman, Eric (February 8, 2007). "Serenity Comes to Sarah Connor". IGN. Archived from the original on October 8, 2008 . Retrieved July 7, 2013. Design Your Own Treasure Map: At the conclusion of The Firefly Summer, Ryanna finally puts together the clues that lead her to her mother’s buried treasure. Consider the items her mother has buried: Why do they have enough significance to her to be left as a treasure? Next, think about the things you hold most dear. After taking time to reflect, make a list of treasures you’d hide to preserve or protect them.

The Firefly Summer is told from a first-person narrator perspective. How would the story be different if it was told by multiple narrators rather than just Ryanna? Do you think changing or limiting the point of view would make the story better or worse? Why?

And best of all, she didn’t try to be my mom, or take over my life. It was like she understood it had just been me and my dad for a long time, and she was going to ease in rather than barge in. It had been so drama-free with Ginger that it made me wonder if all the fairy tales with evil stepmothers had been lying.

When Ryanna asks about her unusual name, her father tells her, “‘Your mom was stubborn. Once she wanted something, she was going to get it. She wanted to name her daughter Ryanna, and was firm on that. And by the time you came along, it just seemed like a given.’” (Chapter three) How does learning the history of her name and her mom’s commitment to using it help Ryanna better understand her mother and who she was as a person? Thinking about yourself, does your name have a history or a particular tie to someone special? Of course I’m not going to go,” I said immediately, folding the letter up. The summer had been planned out already, after all. The calendar was all filled in.

Consider the relationships between Ryanna’s cousins. What makes their bond special? In what ways do they support one another? What do you believe to be the biggest challenges to their relationships? Are there any ways in which you see similarities in these relationships with your extended family? I know for most people, this might not be weird. Normal dads probably sit at kitchen tables all the time. Each firefly species has its own unique flashing pattern. When a male firefly wants to communicate with a female firefly, he flies near the ground while he flashes his light every six seconds. Once he’s near the ground, a female can more easily tell if he’s from the same species as she is. (Most female fireflies can’t fly.) She answers his flashes by turning on her lights. Then the male finds her. I don't fully understand Grace's evolution. It's as if one day she is a genuinely sweet tween/teen and the next she is, as Kate puts it, "a little madam." By the end of the book she is practically unrecognizable, but the gradual changes in her personality and preferences seem to happen off-stage. This was a little frustrating.

Cruz, Rachel (January 17, 2019). "Netflix Martial Arts Drama 'Wu Assassins' Adds Li Jun Li". Business Times. Archived from the original on January 28, 2019 . Retrieved January 28, 2019.The writing style was great, I can find no fault. My issue was really with the characters. With the age of the four sisters, I found it difficult to believe that they all of a sudden were coming to terms with the death of their brother. There was no real turning point in the story that would have brought theses sisters to this point in their grieving process, particularly after over 50 years. It felt kind of random to me. Not to mention that most of the characters were not really likeable, or if they were, they were just boring. Birdie, the oldest feels responsible for the tragedy and has increasingly self-medicated with wine. It’s taking a toll on her marriage as well as her relationship with her sisters. Remy was widowed young and made her life’s focus raising her three children. Now she has an unexpected chance of love. Sailor, having just filed for divorce from her philandering husband, has realized her dream of living on the Cape near her sisters. Piper, the youngest sister, is feeling the physical changes women of a certain age go through and is a bit disconcerted by it all. A look of relief passed over my dad’s face. “Well, it’s your decision. Do you want to talk it through with Dr. Wendy?”
