This is because in ancient times it was believed that wearing this kind of jade around the waist could cure kidney disease. [28] During Neolithic times, the key known sources of nephrite jade in China for utilitarian and ceremonial jade items were the now-depleted deposits in the Ningshao area in the Yangtze River Delta ( Liangzhu culture 3400–2250 BC) and in an area of the Liaoning province and Inner Mongolia ( Hongshan culture 4700–2200 BC). Type A jade is far more valuable than type B, which is far more valuable than type C. Type B + C tends to be the least valuable. It can be difficult to identify jade treatments without spending a little time researching techniques. ColorEnsemble of jade pendants and/or jade strings which were combined with other precious materials (such as silver or gold accessories) were called jinbu ( Chinese: 禁步); the jinbu were a type of yaopei (waist accessories) which were typically worn by women to press down the hemline of their clothing. [3] The jinbu appeared thousands of years ago and were initially only worn by nobles, but with time, it was gradually adopted by all women regardless of their social ranks. [3] The jinbu also used to be an indicator of elegance and etiquette in ancient times: if the behaviour of its wearer is discourteous (i.e. walking too fast), the jinbu would sound loud; and thus, it would remind the wearer to mind his manners and elegance; on the other hand, if its wearer behave appropriately, the jinbu would sound melodic and pleasant.
