Partial-onset seizures are also called focal seizures. They start on one side of the brain. During a partial-onset seizure, you may be aware of what’s happening. Or you may lose consciousness or have no memory of the seizure after it ends. Common side effects of levetiracetam include sleepiness, dizziness, feeling tired, and aggression. [7] Severe side effects may include psychosis, suicide, and allergic reactions such as Stevens–Johnson syndrome or anaphylaxis. [7] Levetiracetam is the S- enantiomer of etiracetam. [8] Its mechanism of action is not yet clear. [7] It's not possible to say that one works better than the others. It varies from person to person, and depends on the type of seizures and how often you have them. Swallow Keppra tablets with a sufficient quantity of liquid ( e.g. a glass of water). You may take Keppra with or without food. After oral administration the bitter taste of levetiracetam may be experienced. If you take it twice a day, take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it's less than 8 hours before the next dose is due. In this case, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the usual time. Liquid levetiracetam comes with a syringe to help you measure it. If you do not have a syringe, ask your pharmacist for one. Do not use a kitchen teaspoon as it will not measure the right amount.
