About this deal

But the upgrade option we genuinely liked was a completely unoccupied M.2 2280 slot, allowing an easy means to clone the existing 512GB storage to another M.2 device or add additional internal storage. During the synthetic performance comparison, our test unit places only in the lower middle of the comparison field. The age of the AMD Radeon RX 6600Mis noticeable at this point, and the successors based on RDNA-3 are getting ready. Those who still need a higher 3D performance can use the Thunderbolt connection, which is currently only offered in the HX99G of the series. We got to work and documented the performance in combination with the Razer Core X and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti. With that, we achieve a performance in our comparison that corresponds to that of the Minisforum NUCXi7with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop. At the same time, you still have to make do with significant performance limitations, since using Thunderbolt, the external graphics card is only connected via 4 PCI Express lanes. Furthermore, the MinisForum HX99G boasts two USB4 Type-C ports, ensuring compatibility with the latest devices and future-proofing your connectivity options. Whether you need to transfer data, connect external storage, or charge your devices, these USB4 ports provide incredible speed and convenience. The Mini Ryzen desktop also includes an RJ45 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port for stable and high-speed wired internet connections, ideal for online gaming or large file transfers.

Due to a technical difficulty, we couldn't benchmark the HX77G, something we really wanted to do. What this system promises is the computing performance of the AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS, an eight-core hyperthreading CPU mashed with the video processing capability of the AMD Radeon RX 6600M. Minisforum introduced a new variant called HX99G in its Neptune portfolio today. It is an upgraded version of the first member, the HX90G (5900HX processor + RX6600M GPU), which was announced in May 2022 before going up for sale in September 2022. The Neptune HX99G looks practically identical to the HX90G. Measuring 205 x 203 x 69 mm (8.1" x 8" x 2.7"), both models feature 45 watts, 8-cores/16-threads graphics and the same laptop-class discrete GPU. However, it updates the Ryzen 9 5900HX with a faster Ryzen 9 6900HX and replaces the two DP ports with two speedier USB4 ports. Removing four screws hidden under the rubber feet makes it possible to remove the top of the HX77G and then remove a metal frame to have full access to the mainboard. Our review system came with 32GB of Corsair branded DDR5, but these 16GB modules can be removed to upgrade this machine to 64GB if required. The hardware brands may vary from batch to batch. Please rest assured that they all meet Minisforum's standards and are all covered by the warranty. HX99G supports quad display: two 4K/60 Hz displays through HDMI 2.0 and two 8K/60 Hz displays through USB 4. Other ports include:

Conclusion

I’m a big fan of the Minisforum HX99G. In fact, it’s difficult to find anything truly wrong with it other than some particular issues with my unit. For example, it seems like the model I received struggles with display output inconsistencies, where it simply won’t output to any monitor from any of the HDMI or USB4 ports. I never did figure out the problem, and I suspect a manufacturing defect is to blame. This cookie, set by YouTube, registers a unique ID to store data on what videos from YouTube the user has seen. Price: The advanced features and powerful specifications of the MinisForum HX99G Mini PC come at a higher price point compared to entry-level mini PCs. However, the investment in its performance and capabilities is worthwhile for users seeking top-notch performance. Dual 2.5G Ethernet Ports】Sleek design dual 2.5-gigabit ethernet port design provides more applications, such as firewalls, multichannel aggregation, file storage servers, etc. At the same time, dual-band Wi-Fi6, BT5.2 with more substantial resisting disturbance and more stable wireless signal. No matter how complicated your environment, MINISFORUM NAB5 mini desktop computers can provide a relatively stable and smooth network.

That’s the HX99G’s final charm. It’s so flexible with its software given its hardware that you can run whatever OS you want on it and you should be fine. Minisforum Neptune HX99G review: Verdict We've seen the Ryzen 7 7735HS before in other Mini PCs, and it's a very impressive processor offering eight cores and sixteen threads and a default TDP range of 35 to 54W. As this isn't a laptop with a battery, this version gets to use its full 54W envelope, and it also gets the benefit of not using the Radeon 680M integrated GPU but the independently powered RX 6600M.Our final benchmark is Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. The MinisForum HX99G mini PC for gaming is essentially tied with the NUCXi5 for 2nd place at 4K. The HX99G features an AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX Rembrandt APU. This processor is based on the AMD Zen3+ architecture, and it was the best APU AMD had when this product first came out a few months ago. Furthermore, it is paired with Radeon RX 6600M discrete GPU which has more than twice as many GPU cores as the integrated RDNA2 GPU into the APU.
