About this deal

This enable the relatively simple crossover to yield a phase perfect integration to the treble unit throughout the whle crossover region, creating a soundstage which is free from the speakers and allowing the drive units to work as a cohesive whole. The Diamond 10.1 is based on the hugely successful 9.1, while showcasing a number of impressive improvements. Most notably, the cabinet of the 10.1 has been redesigned with greater internally braced curved sides. This ensures that the cabinet walls are protected from bending or flexing while in use so you can enjoy a crystal clear and immaculately pure performance. High-Calibre Construction The Q Acoustic 3020i speakers are broadly similar in terms of how they compare to the Wharfedales. Yes, the Q Acoustics provide a slightly warmer comparison than the Bronze 50s but the Wharfedales give the sound poise. The Wharfedales infuse the music with charisma. The Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 speaker's twin reflex ports have been moved to the rear of the cabinet, to reduce the effects of audible distortion. These ports extend the bass to below 45Hz, contributing to an impressive sense of sonic scale. Over the soft-dome tweeter is a metal diffusion grid which, as well as protecting the dome when the speaker is being used without its grille, also irons out high-frequency perturbations right up to 30kHz, delivering a smoother response and crystal-clear treble detailing. We have had the smallest floorstander, the Diamond 155 on demonstration in our showroom for the past week, and have been thoroughly impressed with it. Build quality and design is impeccable, while stereo image and soundstage is much greater than you would expect from a speaker at this price. Despite the Diamond range’s billing as an entry-level speaker series, the Diamond 100 are much more capable and adept, and would be hard to beat without spending some serious money.

The Diamond 12.1 speakers are set up for bi-wire use with the upper terminals reserved for treble use and the lower terminals aimed at mid-bass driver use. Metal straps are included is bi-wire is not required. The terminals themselves have a screw thread and will take banana plugs, spades or even bare wire. I have owned many Wharfedale speakers and I have to say they are probably the most consistent brand across their models as far as quality, don't get me wrong though most of the model lines have different sound signatures. Currently I own the Evolution 40's up front with the Evo center and Opus tri surrounds in the rear and the sound is so balanced and clear. I have owned the following models over the years: But for those not clouded by that association and by that prejudice, Wharfedale has been and remains a strong contender in the Speaker market with the Diamond consistently being their most popular product. The overall result of the engineering changes is to deliver a tightly focused and spacious stereo image allied to a clean and clear performance throughout the audioble bandwidth. The coherence of the midrange and treble balance provides a highly musical and natural delivery of all types of music that positively encourage exploration of any CD, LP and MP3 collection.

The Wharfedale Diamond range is one which has been delighting audiophiles, music lovers and hi-fi enthusiasts in some form since the early 1980s, and these ranges have been a staple of the budget speaker market ever since. With nearly three decades of supremacy within the hi-fi market, winning numerous international awards and selling over 1 million pairs worldwide, Diamond has become the most recognizable name in hi-fi loudspeakers. The Diamond 10.1 are definitely worth their price, but they come with little or no discount. Now several member have bought Diamond 10 series speakers, and not a single one is complaining that he paid too much. They are all very satisifed with what they got for what they paid. If I can compare the Diamond 12.1s to amplifier designs for a moment, the musical presentation is similar to the Audiolab 6000A and the Rega Brio-R. The latter provides a measure of bass but puts most of its efforts into the mids and treble, excelling in both while only asking the bass to underpin the mids and treble. The 6000A asks bass to be a full partner, in sonic terms, so that treble, mids and bass offer equal emphasis.

Their current range includes Reva, Denton, Diamond 11 and Diamond 200 series, D300 and vintage-look Heritage speakers as well as the newer bluetooth DS-2 speakers and Vista 200 subwoofer. Tweeter diffuser: Over the soft-dome tweeter is a metal diffusion grid which, as well as protecting the dome when the speaker is being used without its grille, also irons out high-frequency perturbations right up to 30kHz, delivering a smoother response and crystal-clear treble detailing. Every product and process in speaker design and manufacturing is handled in-house making it the most advanced research and development program, meaning that Wharfedale are able to design exactly to their own spec without limitation - and can exact this vision to perfection. Such design principles are evident in the finished product.A low-damping surround was sought too. The Klarity diaphragms are driven by a magnet system with an aluminium compensation ring to, “…minimise the effect of variations in inductance as the voice coil travels.” The answer I got was that Wharfedale made one critical marketing mistake. They decided to expand their market by branching out into low end consumer equipment, and rather than expanding their market among general consumers, it devalued their Brand Name for Music Enthusiast and Audiophile. When a new generation grew into the market, they already associated Wharfedale with low end Walmart/Curry's class equipment, and intuitively felt the wanted something better. Wharfedale has also tried to enter other markets. For example, you can buy Wharfedale brand PA equipment. For a while they tried to enter the DJ market with the Valdus and Xarus speaker lines. These were high-powered high-output speakers, that were a bit less refined, but very attractively priced. Perfect for Amateur or small venue DJs. So who is it then? Well, if you’re a fan of Q Acoustic designs or you have heard designs like the 3020i and 3030i and liked those then you will also be expressing admiration for the designer, German-based Karl Heinz Fink. Karl was effectively the launch designer for the Q Acoustic brand but left Q Acoustic around two years ago, give or take. Karl, who also runs his own high-end design company called Fink Team for his own branded speakers, has been working with Wharfedale of late and is the brains behind the Diamond 12 series.
