I Will Send You the Comforter: . . . He Will Guide You into All Truth. John 16:7–14

When I think of “comforter,” I am reminded of the light, down-filled blanket my aunt let me use when I stayed with her in her Maine cabin. It kept me warm during the coolest nights. When I was afraid of the dark, or the bats that got in once in awhile, it was always that comforter that somehow made me feel safe and secure as I snuggled underneath it. Yet, as much as it protected me from what was outside, I hardly even knew it was there; as it was so light. Strong's 4851: From sun and phero; to bear together, i.e. to collect, or to conduce; especially advantage.

Nevertheless I tell you the truth: It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I don’t go away, the Counselor won’t come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. And I will pray the Father, and he will give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; For it is My Father's will that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day." the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive [and take to its heart] because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He (the Holy Spirit) remains with you continually and will be in you.These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him. When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.

that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you. Pulpit Commentary Verses 26, 27. - A new source of consolation now appears. Already twice over he has spoken of the Paraclete ( John 14:16 and 26),the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. Just before Jesus faced the ordeal that would lead Him to the cross, He promised His disciples that another “Comforter” would be sent to them after He was gone. “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;” John 14:16 Also: John 15:26. I will pray to the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, that he may be with you forever,--

Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. as being sent by the Father in answer to his prayer, to be the compensation to his disciples for his personal departure, and also But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send at my request, will teach you everything, and will bring to your memories all that I have said to you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you.
