The best place to start is with its most striking problem – a series of disappearances, spread over a number of decades, of those staying in an attic room at a mansion named Metropolis. Yes, this is yet another house in Jonathan Creek with a frankly ridiculous name and here it doesn’t even tie into the story in any meaningful way other than to faintly suggest to us that the house was built in the thirties. J onathan has recently begun a relationship with an old acquaintance, Nicola (Katherine Parkinson), who is opposed to his investigative career, believing it to be too dangerous an occupation. Jonathan is still in the employment of the magician Adam Klaus, whose television series is receiving heavy criticism from viewers. To Jonathan’s bemusement, Klaus invests in the 3D pornography industry and begins dating the porn actress Candy Mountains (Jemma Walker). Jonathan inspects the attic room, and the bedroom directly beneath it, but finds nothing suspicious, save for a small vent in the canopy of the room’s four-poster bed, which is opened when pressure is put on the mattress, releasing dead flies. She panics and starts to hyperventilate-at which point he exits the bathroom, flushing the loo. False alarm.

A drug dealer and criminal who was shot six times in the head somehow managed to climb up the stairs from the cellar in the intervening time between his body being dumped and it being discovered months later. Jonathan and Maddy try to investigate, but things are hampered by the killer's belief that his victim has supernatural powers and will kill him from beyond the grave.
