About this deal

Joy Collector's Edition Pure Perfume becomes itself when the tuberose, jasmine, and ylang ylang emerge, it nevertheless maintains a balanced tone. It is hard to detect musk and sandalwood, but it all plays well. The bottle is like nail polish, the white florals are lovely and they blend well with the other florals. Its is lovely in winter and fall and is reasonably priced.

A few minutes later I thought 'where's that potent urinal odour coming from?'. I couldn't account for it as I was in Jenners (which is basically Edinburgh's Harrods and never smells anything less than luxuriant). Finally I located the odour and realised it was emanating from Joy. I suggest they re-launch this at the weirder end of the niche fragrance market and re-name it 'Dismay Absolou'. It’s price and the story behind it made Joy a legend and yes, having Joy meant the joy of having the fortune of affording it. Henri Alméras, a perfumer that had worked before for Paul Poiret, was the creator of all the Patou perfumes that I've mentioned, as well as Chaldée, a fragrance that came to the world firstly as a scented tanning oil, and knew great success, especially in coastal places like Deauville and Monte-Carlo. The perfume branch of the Patou company was growing and it had subsidiaries in New York, as well as fields of roses and jasmine in Grasse, for it's own use in perfumes. "This control of every stage of production is another example of the care Jean Patou put into everything. It also reflects his fierce desire for independence, the better to run his house as he saw fit," references Emmanuelle Polle. An extremely opulent and carnal interpretation on one specific subcategory of chypre, namely Mitsouko along with a strand of variants, e.g. Miss Dior Vintage, Nina Ricci Temps Vintage, YSL Y and Rive Gauche, Rochas Madame Vintage, Hermes Parfum d'Hermes and Caleche, and even Amouage Ubar. Maybe it's clearer to express in a tree form like: By the way, my Sira des Indes (which I like) are all P&G. I have never run across a Designer Parfums bottle. Of course I had to test this fragrance, too, because I thought Dior would finally be able to dare something new again.

From 1967 to 1999 Jean Kerléo was the house perfumer, he developed all their perfumes during that time including "1000" (1972) and "Sublime" (1992), "Patou Pour Homme" (1980). [8] Some people say that JOY does not actually have a separate type of EAU DE JOY. If there is, it is likely to be a light version that the company has reconfigured for customer needs. I have a few iterations of Joy. My first is a bottle (edt splash) my grandmother no longer used and gave to me because she knew I was obsessed with fragrances. I didn't initially like it... but after being wrapped in a sunny, soapy bliss I changed my mind. This EDT lasts about 2-3 hours. I think this one didn't age too well. Still lovely though. Stewart, Mary Lynn (2008). Dressing Modern Frenchwomen: Marketing Haute Couture, 1919–1939. JHU Press. p.209. ISBN 978-0-8018-8803-8. Of course, there are many more perfumes from the house of Jean Patou that are wonderful, and you can even take a look at our article Best In Show Jean Patou Fragrances. Let's not forget 1000 (1972), Sublime (1992), and Patou For Ever, created by Jean Kerleo. But Joy is, or should be, considered an indelible cultural heritage of perfume history and French culture.

I also love vintage fashion and also love wearing fragrances that aren't on trend but possibly ready for a wider audience.

In this fragrance, jasmine, rose, and tuberose are expertly blended with a hint of mint and galbanum. 3 Fleurs is a little soapy, but not traditionally; it is undoubtedly a unisex fragrance with outstanding performance. It is a wondrously composed medley of florals and softly flowing woods on a smooth, almost not registering, aldehydic cloud. It is elegant.Composed. Refined. Well behaved but not tame. It is almost mercurial yet steadfast. You have a sense that it will remain as such. When I re-opened my eyes, I realized that I had pushed the bottle opening up my little 8 yr old nostril. It was pure magic, I couldn't get enough of the scent! I took the bottle out, and with a sheepish grin I wiped it off as well as I could and inadvertently spilled a little bit on my shirt. Knowing I would undoubtedly get caught, I ran over to the laundry room and threw my shirt in the washer and changed shirt. I passed by my Great-Grandmother and she gave me that knowing look. I told her what I did and she just shook her head and told me not to do it again.

It is suitable for everyday use, citric-floral-creamy, fine and delicate, not too sweet. A soft musk base keeps very quiet, but still on the skin for some time! A very pleasant perfume of the day. I guess you can't go wrong with that scent. But I dare doubt whether the price/performance ratio is right. About 30 years ago, it was very rare that the same name was taken given - chosen for fragrances by different companies, but nowadays it is so very frequent. And I do not like it at all. (I'm thinking about the "Guess" by Guess and the "Guess" by Marciano or "Idole" by Giorgio Armani and now by Lancôme. Nothing alike, nor in bottle designs nor in smells, by 2 companies that have nothing to do with each other neither. Etc... Ode is similar to Patou's Joy but creamier, with a tinge of fruitiness that almost tastes like a plum.

I am far from blaming those, but hey, why so? Why does Guerlain find a way to sustain old chaps of their line, why do they find ways to play with temporary withdrawals then reissues of the old gems, still insisting on their importance to the world?
