About this deal

Access to your shed roof is needed to carry out the waterproofing. You’ll need a good ladder or a tall step ladder. Be sure the roof is strong enough to work off when you’re cutting the roofing materials. Think safety first.

Cost-Effective:Few roofing materials offer the same combination of performance and affordability, saving on materials and labour. A base, or a venting layer, is usually installed on a primed, non-combustible substrate. This is generally partially bonded. This is followed by an intermediate layer of the felt roof build-up, a waterproofing membrane. High-performance systems use glass fibre-based membranes coated in oxidised bitumen that is sand finished and fully bonded. A cap sheet is the final layer. These are often coated with APP or SBS rubber modified bitumen. Rolled roofing is very adaptable and can be cut into 12-inch by 36-inch strips to act as hips and ridges or 9-inch strips for eaves and rakes. We only supply the best and IKO is the world renowned leader of felt roof shingles. Used all over the world they will protect your log cabin or garden building. We are one of the largest suppliers of IKO across Europe and as such we offer the largest range in the UK.

Felt Roof Ridge

At the corners of the roof, cut the roofing shingles to create an overlap when Folded around the corner, then nail this into position. Fixing The Felt Shingles in Place The next step is to begin fixing the felt to your roof. Use galvanised clout nails to nail the first sheet of felt onto the roof. We’d recommend nailing from the centre of the edge of the sheet and working outwards. Leave about 5cm between each nail, and ensure the sheet is pulled tight and sitting in line with the roof. 5. Add more felt if required Aesthetics: Available in a range of styles, colours, and textures, felt shingles give you the freedom to create the perfect aesthetic for you.

Next, lay the second layer of felt on the roof. Ensure any joins on the first layer are overlapped, and any air bubbles have been smoothed out, and then nail it down as before. 8. Spread adhesive Be aware, when folding the edge pieces and in cold conditions, you may need to warm the material first to make it more supple and pliable. Installation advice on installation of IKO shingles from a practical point of view: https://www.tuin.co.uk/blog/fitting-felt-shingles-for-log-cabins/ Rolled roofing will not make your structure any more attractive. It is generally considered a less attractive roofing material than shingles or other types of roofing systems.Homeowner's associations in gated communities may not allow the installation of any structure with rolled roofing, even outbuildings. Now take the second piece of shed felt and lay it across the roof, ensuring there is an overlap over the first roll of felt – try to ensure this is around 5-7.5cm. Again, nail the top of the roofing felt into place. 5. Add felt adhesive Brands like Katepal, IKO, Cembrit, and Roofing Superstore’s own brand offer a range of designs, shapes and finishing colours and textures. Roofing felt

Each tile has a bitumen strip which melts in the heat of the sun securing your shingles. As an option we offer felt shingle glue and this is also recommended by IKO. We recommend bitumen glue is at least used on the ridge tiles and the first leading edge roof tiles. We recommend shingle glue is used especially in the colder months as it takes longer for the bitumen glue to melt. Shingle glue is also highly recommended in very exposed locations. Generally we do not see the need for the placement of a membrane (roofing felt or IKO underlay for all garden buildings as it is not generally necessary for leisure buildings and has not been recommended for over 15 years. To set the first row of shingles you will need to trim some material from one edge of the shingle strip before fixing them at the eaves. With the square butt shingles, this should be 125mm. Or if using fishscale shingles, trim off 100mm. You’ll need to do this for all odd-numbered rows.
