About this deal

Once we set up our 4G Hub router, we tried it in three different locations around the house, to find which place had the best 4G signal.

There are a few caveats, though, with Three's customer service record not completely matching their competitors', and their coverage struggling in comparison too. Given the speeds on offer from the Three 4G Hub, and how easy this device is to set up, we think this router is very good value for money. The support for faster Category 18 LTE technology enables much better performance in areas where Three’s network has been upgraded to support it. For instance, the router can use carrier aggregation on three component carriers at the same time (3CC CA), along with Three’s L-band spectrum and 4×4 MIMO to deliver higher speeds. With a sleek white design the 4G Hub will also fit seamlessly into most rooms, so you can set it up and forget about it, while it quietly keeps you online. Your spend cap is for data, minutes or texts beyond your plan’s monthly allowance, you can set a limit on what you spend. Any add-ons you buy won’t count towards the spend cap and you’ll get separate one-off or monthly charges for these. The Broadband installation service is a standalone service and separate from your contract for the BT Broadband Service. The Three 4G Plus Hub is designed to be the best mobile data-powered home broadband router this side of 5G ones. Because yes, it tops out at 4G – but it can go well beyond many 4G home broadband routers. These add-ons run on a 30 day rolling contract until you cancel them. When you first buy an Add-On, it lasts until the date of your next BT Mobile bill. It covers minutes or data used over your inclusive plan allowance, up to the allowance for that Add-On, from your last BT Mobile bill until your next one. Add-On allowances reset at the start of each billing month. You can only have one data and one minutes Add-On at any one time

Our 4G Plus Hub arrived in a Three branded box. Once you open it, the first thing you see is the router itself. One important thing to note is that this is population rather than landmass, so there will be much lower coverage across the UK and those in rural areas will definitely miss out for the time being. Since we reviewed the regular 4G Hub a few months ago, it could also be that some upgrades were made to the 4G LTE network in our area, which contributed to the higher speeds. The app is a small perk as well, and the design is arguably a bit nicer, but it’s also bigger and has fewer Ethernet ports. There are a number of benefits to 5G and 4G home broadband. For one thing, as the data isn’t sent through your landline, you don’t need a landline. This is a potentially big deal as many people rarely use their landline for calls these days, keeping it simply because it’s a requirement for their internet. So by taking it out of the equation you can also remove line rental costs. As we've hinted at above, 4G home broadband solutions harness the power of mobile signals rather than relying on cables and landlines. In this way, they work like your smartphone when it isn't connected to your Wi-Fi and you need to get online.
