About this deal

Additionally, this telescope comes with a 20 mm eyepiece that provides a wide field of view and enhances the user’s viewing experience by making it easier to locate celestial objects. With its powerful magnification capabilities, users can explore deep space objects such as galaxies or observe details on planetary surfaces like Jupiter’s Great Red Spot. It’s mostly ideal for lunar and planetary observations. But with the right eyepiece, you can coax some decent quality deep space images out of it, though you’ll be limited to the brighter galaxies and clusters.

You can even explore basic planetary and moon astrophotography with a motorized drive upgrade. While the EQ mount may be more complex than an altazimuth mount, it’s still a great option for anyone planning to buy a telescope for kids 15 years or older. Takeaway – A beginner’s guide to the Celestron Astromaster 130 EQ telescopeAnother thing to consider is that German equatorial mounts like the CG-3 are not the most comfortable ergonomically with a Newtonian telescope. The eyepiece can wind up in some odd positions. The 130EQ optical tube can be rotated in its rings to adjust the position of the eyepiece, but you could easily throw off the balance and/or skew the pointing of the telescope in the process of doing so. The two eyepieces included are a 10mm and 20mm Kellner eyepiece which provide magnifications of 65x and 33x respectively. The Celestron AstoMaster 130EQ’s 130mm aperture and high quality optics makes it a good choice for beginners looking for an affordable telescope that is easy to use. Even if you are unfortunate enough to get a sample with mediocre to poor optics, the Celestron AstroMaster 130 can show you a lot of deep sky objects, provided you obtain a better low-power eyepiece than the one included with the telescope. The brighter open star clusters and nebulae such as the Orion, Lagoon, and Swan will look fantastic with half-decent skies. Some of the bright galaxies, such as Andromeda, M82, and M64, will show their dust lanes, and under really dark skies, M51 and M101 might just reveal their spiral arms. Celestron markets the AstroMaster 130EQ as a versatile, multipurpose telescope, a feature partly attributed to the inclusion of the 20mm eyepiece. While this adds to the telescope’s appeal, the actual benefit of this feature might differ based on the user’s specific needs and expectations.

The CG-3 is an equatorial mount, which needs to be aligned with the Pole Star, Polaris. (Image credit: Celestron) Celestron AstroMaster 130EQ: Performance Beginner telescopes don’t offer the capability and versatility of more advanced models. But for the price, the Celestron AstroMaster 130EQ offers plenty. I love the high quality optics, the beautiful planetary and lunar images and of course, the equatorial mount. The Zhumell Z130, like the Heritage, offers superior accessories, optics, and a simpler mount than the 130EQ but with a closed tube design.Lot of things has to go right to get the perfect views, if not getting the perfect view wait for the perfect condition to occur. The mount is a German equitorial mount referred to as the CG-3 by Celestron and it’s a fairly competent mount despite its somewhat flimsy build quality according to users. With a primary mirror diameter of 130mm and focal ratio of f/5, the Astromaster 130EQ reflector telescope delivers crisp and clear images that make it suitable for both deep-space observation and terrestrial viewing. As for its dimensions, they are 88.9 x 48.3 x 30.5 centimetres so, it’s reasonably portable. Overall the portability of the 130EQ is one of its stronger elements and I can’t imagine many people will have much of problem with this aspect of the device. Accessories Included In The Box

Accessories include a 20mm and 10mm eyepiece, and a finderscope. The two eyepieces offer different magnifications for low and high powered views. The 20mm has a built-in erect image corrector.Additionally, some users have reported that the mount itself can be wobbly or unstable, which further complicates matters. Various celestial objects such as planets, stars, and galaxies can be observed with the Celestron Astromaster 130 EQ telescope. This telescope is a reflector type of telescope, which means that it uses mirrors to reflect light from distant objects into an eyepiece. The Astromaster 130 EQ has a primary mirror that measures 130 millimeters in diameter, allowing for clear and detailed images of various celestial bodies. None of these were super prominent or overly concerning but it did crop up enough during my research to mention it here. I did not have any such issues. Verdict As for the telescopes weight and dimensions, fully assembled the 130EQ comes in at 12.6kg which is a little heavy but for convenience you could always separately move the tripod and the telescope tube.
