There is an appealing “closed space” aroma (a scent blend of old wood; antique, crumbling papers; and dried leather) in Homme’s mid-development. I’ve always loved the smells of dusty attics, the insides of old trunks and wood cabinets; and glass-fronted bookcases that have been shut for too long. (I’m a ‘ghost” at heart, I guess.) Homme is a wonderful companion for the spring, autumn and winter months for the slightly younger, or slightly young-at-heart gentleman looking for an aromatic, flattering fragrance that stands out a little from the crowd. Costume National is a niche perfumerybrand founded in 2001by Ennio Capasa, combining Japanese minimalismwith the Italian sartorial approach to create wonderful and original artistic perfumes.Costume National fragrances have an innovative soul, a modern identity, and a strong connection with Italy and the artistic traditionof high perfumery. These unique scents are created following a contemporaryand essentialstyle, which is reflected in the high qualityand purity of the raw materials used.

It’s clear to me that a lot of raw materials have been used in this formulation. According to the brand, the fragrance utilizes several extracts from Laboratoire Monique Remy in Grasse, which specializes in the production of premium raw materials. It is also concentrated at 25%, which is quite a lot for a designer perfume. All this is to say that Costume National Homme Parfum is a very high quality product, and that is reflected in the price. Cyber Garden EDP: a fresh, enveloping scent inspired by a futuristic garden where rare and unusual notes create a vibrant balance. My initial impression stays, this is a wonderful perfume. Even for those that don't like cloves, like me, this can be perfectly accesible. The comparison to Comme des Garçons is one that I can understand, especially during the first few minutes. But this perfume is a lot softer and much less pungent than CDG, which was more medicinal and heavy. I find CNH more versatile and more crowd friendly. It kind of reminds me of the holidays, don't know why though, but it does. Pop Collection EDP: Pink Grapefruit and Jasmine mingle with woody notes of Patchouli and Cashmeran, in an elegant minimalist fragrance that balances simplicity and originality.

That is way more than enough for me. This is one of the few fragrances I have that I can still smell on my skin the next day when I wake up. It often survives two showers. On fabric, this can easily last for weeks or months. That is a sign that this is a quality piece of work.

At the same time, the clove is underlined by a subtle sweet-spicy nuance, which ensures that the heart note has a beautiful smooth substance and is due to the cinnamon. The sandalwood is accompanied by a slightly earthy-sweetish nuance, which provides a pleasant depth and is due to the patchouli.

If you are looking for a potent autumn/winter scent that reminds you of a Christmas cake with lots of cinnamon, you will certainly find it here. For those who like it a bit finer/softer/cuddlier in autumn and winter, I recommend other "sweets", such as the Immergeher "Noir Extreme - Tom Ford". It is a pretty versatile fragrance which will do you good at the office (so long as you go easy on the trigger), semi-formal and formal occasions, casual hangouts, and maybe even romantic encounters, though I wouldn’t recommend it for a first date due to the polarizing nature of the spices. Costume National has been one of the more successful clothing designers who have made the foray into fragrance. Laurent Bruyere created the first four fragrances for Costume National. Scent was followed in close succession by Scent Intense, Scent Gloss and Scent Sheer. These fragrances were all inspired by the tropical flower hibiscus and he used it in interesting combinations. If you didn't like the original but like the idea of the original, give this a try. You just might fall in love. Some of Ropion's popular creations include Givenchy Ysatis, Givenchy Amarige, Kenzo Jungle Elephant, Calvin Klein Euphoria, Thierry Mugler Alien, Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb, and Lancôme La Vie Est Belle. However, his most famous creation is arguably Portrait of a Lady for Frédéric Malle, which he developed with his friend and collaborator, Frédéric Malle. This fragrance is considered a masterpiece in the fragrance industry and has received critical acclaim. In a few words, Costume National Homme Parfum is: rich, smooth, spicy, creamy, woody, dark green, exotic, and festive. The most successful of these, for me, was Scent Intense. It is one of my favorite floral amber fragrances. Sadly Laurent Bruyere passed away in 2008 and since then only two scents have been released by Costume National: 21 in 2008, and at the end of 2009 the first male-marketed fragrance from the House, Costume National Homme.

Scent Intense EDP: "Wow, this fragrance is amazing! One spray, and I feel surrounded by an incredible and magnetic aura!" - Elisa This perfume may not be a real crowdpleaser, but I think a lot of people would like this particular fragrance. Then again, taste will always be personal. It most certainly got my attention and I will definitely try this again, maybe even buy a small bottle for winter. The parfum significantly tones down on the cloves. While cloves are still present in the mix, they are no longer the star of the show. Cardamom and cinnamon fill in for them instead. Additionally, the thyme note has been entirely removed, the greenness it brought having been replaced with vetiver and the anisic bite of the cardamom. One is that this is a very high quality, high performance, designer fragrance with a niche character. I have nevertheless read all of the comments on this fragrance from the Lead Speakers with pleasure and am looking forward to a discussion below the comment :)Dominique Ropion has crafted one of the best fragrances in the entire Costume National fragrance line and it is also one of the best he has done, too. Dolce di Giorno by Italian niche brand Bois 1920 has often been called a “niche” version of Costume National Homme with a heavy dose of plum. Not having smelt that fragrance myself, I can’t really comment on that, but the parfum already smells “niche” to my nose, so I won’t be seeking it out. Homme’s spice notes never fade away but as the fragrance dries down, the scents of patchouli, cedar/sandalwood and leather-lite become apparent. The extreme dry-down of Homme smells of soft, plush, and lightly spiced amber.
