KMC designs are solid, but they're always 2nd fiddle to the chains natively designed to be optimized within their "ecosystem" (e.g. SRAM Eagle chain with SRAM Eagle drivetrain).

Ultra-smooth chain inner-plates are completely devoid of square edges, resulting in a chain that engages the cassette and chainring with far less friction, for quieter performance and better wear life. The design allows a narrower overall profile that can withstand greater angles, and also allows for a flatter outer-plate, which means more consistent chain riveting and enhanced overall strength. Only Eagle is a complete system-engineered drivetrain designed, tested and proven to deliver the lightest, highest-performing, most durable system for all riders on any trail. The Eagle chain has been completely re-engineered, and is produced with new manufacturing technology. Just like with NX, you've got options besides the mechanical GX Eagle at the same level of componentry. What's different is that now there are quite a few more options. Instead of either Eagle or not, meaning 1x11 or 1x12, you get options for GX Eagle, GX, GX DH and GX AXS. The latest GX incarnation, Eagle Transmission, is not compatible with the older GX systems though.

The use of this missing link makes it very easy to assemble the chain, but is also ideal if you want to thoroughly clean your bike. Other updates to the 2021 SRAM GX Eagle drivetrain beyond the redesigned cassette include a derailleur with revised pulley wheel offsets, a shorter cage and larger parallelogram section with new springs and pivot hardware.
