The second entry in the series, Streets of Rage 2, had new music (influenced by early '90s club music) from series composer Yuzo Koshiro and newcomer composer Motohiro Kawashima, more defined graphics and a larger selection of moves. On 29 May 2018, Sega released Sega Genesis Classics (known as Sega Mega Drive Classics in PAL regions) which includes Streets of Rage 1-3. An amateur group has been working for SEVEN years on this project. A big remake of the Streets of Rage series, complete with all enemies and playable characters, even the secret ones like Ash, Roo, Shiva... Even Electra and Mr.X are playable in this VERY POLISHED, refined and wonderfully made, game, which albeit amateur, feels and plays like a PROFESSIONAL work! They even released the maker, so you can either make from scratch, or edit an already existing, mod... The community is very live and a plethora of mods are already around, most of them EXCEPTIONALLY WELL made, too, like the SOR 1, 2, 3 faithful remakes, the V4 remake, way of the warrior, rage in time and the Knights of the Round, Warriors of Fate and King of Dragons! Hell, they even made a golden axe trilogy mod, crossover with Streets of Rage! I have to be honest, Streets of Rage is not the game it was when I last played it in 1994. It's rough edges really show through now and it's main selling point at the time, it's presentation is not enough to save it now.
