About this deal

Applying concrete sealer can help stave off long-term damage from moisture and chemical intrusion, but there are different types available, and some perform better than others. To see which ones live up to the hype, we sealed both concrete pavers and a concrete countertop with popular products, then tested their performance against moisture, grease, dirt, and ice-melt chemicals.

Exterior Concrete Surfaces: Because it renders a protective barrier that prevents water penetration and may ward off stains and discoloration, penetrating sealers are your best bet for ideal exterior concrete sealing. It also provides protection against salt and chemicals that might be introduced to the surface of your concrete through weathering or other means of wear. Penetrating sealers seal the pores of concrete below the surface. They form a chemical barrier that shields against intrusion by moisture and chemicals such as ice melt products.Concrete sealers maintain the look of the concrete by adding a protective weather-proof layer over the surface. But, over time, this may start to wear away and show signs of damage. If this is the case, a resurface of sealer can be easily applied to completely renew the look of the concrete. Different concrete sealers offer different types of protection and different looking finishes. The type that you choose should be based on your specific project and concrete protection needs. After correctly applying the sealer, expect to have between 3-5 years protection. Sealer protection will vary dependent on a number of factors such as: traffic (foot/vehicle), weather and general maintenance.
