About this deal

Size. Abominations stand about 5 feet tall when upright, but the total length of their bodies, head to tail, ranges from 10 to as much as 20 feet. Your size is Medium. Magic Resistance. The Yuan-Ti has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects. Actions This 30-foot diameter pit is 120 feet deep. The pit was built to resemble the pit in which Merrshaulk slumbers. The pit’s sides are unworked stone, and the bottom 20 feet of the pit is obscured by a permanent veil of magical darkness. The floor of the pit is littered with numerous bones and corpses of past sacrifices, obscured by the darkness. Age. Like humans, Yuan-ti reach adulthood in their late teens. They show no signs of aging so in theory an Abomination could live well over a century. Yuan-ti are snake-human hybrids, created in the earliest days of civilization, whose culture fell from an advanced, enlightened state into fanaticism and cruelty. They live in a caste-bound society in which those who most closely resemble humans make up the lowest stratum, while the most snakelike constitute the highest and most powerful. One distinctive characteristic they all share is the innate ability to cast suggestion: like Kaa in The Jungle Book, they try to win your trust before they mess you up. Another is that they all have magic resistance, so they have no reason to fear spellcasters more than anyone else.

The appearance of yuan-ti varied greatly from nearly human-like to nearly snake-like, but all had some serpentine features. [6] [7] Scale colors were usually simple greens and browns, but more elaborate swirls, stripes, or diamond patterns were possible, even in blues and reds. [6]

Yuan-Ti Abomination

In combat one of the Yuan-Ti purebloods tries to hold the line while the second moves into room 4 to alert its allies. Finally, yuan-ti abominations will monologue as they fight, because what more could you want from a fanatically religious enemy boss with an 18 Charisma? Chew that scenery!

If you do use an Abomination in tier I, take the time to build up their reputation. Name-drop them in a few previous sessions to build up the hype and tension and make the players a little afraid of this primary antagonist. Organization: Solitary, pair, gang (2-4), troupe (2-13 purebloods, 2-5 halfbloods, and 2-4 abominations); or tribe (20-160 purebloods, 10-80 halfbloods, and 10-40 abominations) The yuan-ti anathema is both fanatical and megalomaniacal, and its ritual of transformation will have burned out any survival instinct its species possesses. However, it’s also ageless and effectively immortal as long as it doesn’t get itself killed, and that’s a persuasive reason to stay alive. Split the difference: the anathema retreats when seriously wounded (reduced to 75 hp or fewer), choosing the Disengage action because of its discipline, its high base movement speed, and its ability to climb and swim. Age. Abominations mature at the same rate as humans and have lifespans similar in length to theirs. There are two versions of the playable Yuan-Ti; one comes from Volo's Guide to Monsters, and the other comes from Monsters of the Multiverse. Though Multiverse made most species in it stronger, the Yuan-Ti there are actually weaker compared to Volo's because the species was notorious for being overpowered. At this point, some sarrukh, long suffering a heavy war on other planes or sunken into hibernation in their ruins, began to return in some numbers. They crucially needed help from their deity, but Sseth was not answering prayers in his slumber. So for aid in their endeavors some of the sarrukh made a bargain with the Mulhorandi deity Set, that put Sseth into a deeper sleep but allowed Set to assume Sseth's mantle and grant the sarrukh their aid. Pre-Ascension: The High Bloodletter Eztli likes to mix torture and his innate suggestion spell to break the minds of his prisoners, urging them to “willingly” sacrifice themselves to Merrshaulk. The High Bloodletter is a type 3 Yuan-Ti Malison with the following additional trait: Great analysis as usual. I’d like to submit a tactic/team comp should you have both pit master and nightmare speaker (along with a few melee yuan-ti) that I’ve found particularly effective. As they’re rather intelligent, I find it likely they’ll be able to use their abilities in such a way to split the party and create a very difficult challenge that’s in line with their lore. I’ll be explaining this from a group of yuan-ti’s perspective, rather than an individual creature.

The weight of a raw piece of meat is 4 pounds. And one slab of meat (4 lbs.), can be used to make 1 dried ration (2 lbs.). Ed Greenwood, Sean K. Reynolds, Skip Williams, Rob Heinsoo (June 2001). Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting 3rd edition. ( Wizards of the Coast), p. 290. ISBN 0-7869-1836-5. This room contains a wooden table, basins of water, and shelves containing medical supplies. This room serves multiple functions, including serving as an emergency hospital, concocting hallucinogenics, and preparing bodies to be placed in the catacombs. Yuan-ti favored bladed weapons. They used slow-acting poisons in their elaborate traps but not typically on their blades. [6] Society [ ]The yuan-ti were once human. [6] [7] Long before humankind dominated the continent of Faerûn, the creator races ruled Toril. The reptilian creator race, the sarrukh, were foremost amongst these and built great empires. They bred the first yuan-ti by magically experimenting with and breeding humans with snakes and sarrukh, also creating nagas and lizardfolk. They eventually fell from power and the resourceful yuan-ti rose up to claim their creators' power, even while sustaining the empire of Mhairshaulk. [23] Of the fragmented World Serpent deity that the sarrukh had worshiped, the yuan-ti venerated the strongest aspect, the cruel and despotic deity Merrshaulk, who grew distant and aloof. [24] b]Innate Spellcasting (Abomination Form Only).[/b] The yuan-ti's innate spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 15). The yuan-ti can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components: Natural Weapon. Your fanged maw is your natural, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with your bite, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, and your target must make a Constitution saving throw (DC 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Con modifier). On a failed save, the target takes 1d4 poison damage. Yuan-ti culture centered around their temples, which often were found in ancient ruins or hidden deep underneath human cities. The locations of these were well-guarded secrets. [6] Post-Ascension: All three of these chambers are occupied by Type 1 Yuan-Ti Malisons unless an event would have drawn their attention elsewhere in the complex. If combat breaks out in one of the chambers, the Yuan-Ti in the adjacent chambers move to join in the fight 1 round later.

Damage Severity by Level

Anathemas are by far the most powerful and loathsome of yuan-ti, worshiped as divine incarnations of Merrshaulk. They are truly bizarre in appearance, with a body like a 25-foot-long serpent; a pair of humanoid arms with clawed, three-fingered hands; and six serpentine heads rising from its shoulders. An anathema's power dwarfs even that of an abomination, but since they represent such unfettered chaos, they are usually found away from yuan-ti cities, establishing cults that worship Merrshaulk through them. They make a common practice of grafting yuan-ti body parts onto humans and other races for use as personal servants. Anathemas are extremely rare, however, and only a handful are likely to exist on any world. They first appeared in the Third Edition version of the Fiend Folio. The yuan-ti came in several distinct castes or breeds. The three most prevalent were as follows: [6] [7] Purebloods Purebloods appeared mostly human, with minor reptilian features, [6] [7] such as slit eyes, [6] a forked tongue, [6] [7] or patches of scales on their skin. [7] Halfbloods Also called malisons, [12] halfbloods were humanoid in shape but had a wide variety of noticeable serpentine features, such as a snakelike tail in place of legs, [6] [7] a complete covering of scales, [6] [7] a hood like a cobra, [13] a snake's head, [6] [7] or snakes in place of arms. [6] [7] Known subgroups of halfbloods included mind whisperers, pit masters, and nightmare speakers. Abominations Abominations were almost completely snakelike, with only a few human features, such as arms or a humanoid head. [6] [7] Minor Subraces Chameleon Power: The yuan-ti can change the coloration of itself and its equipment to match its surroundings. Pre-Ascension: Ssilkashla is the only Yuan-Ti Abomination currently residing in the temple. She lives in room 15B but is rarely found outside of her ritual chambers (room 20).
