As mentioned above, the Baratza Encore coffee grinder can be somewhat messy to use. This is a common complaint with many coffee grinders and is certainly true of the Encore. When you pull out the grinds bin typically some coffee dust and chaff will fall on the benchtop.

The efficient DC motor keeps your beans cool, even during extended grind times, while a combination of electric and gear speed reducers slow the burr to 450 RPM, ensuring a smooth bean feed and reducing noise, heat and static buildup.

The Solis Scala coffee grinderis also slightly more affordable than the Encore. Plus, it is user-friendly, too.The dosing cup is cleverly designed with an adaptor to fit both commercial-standard 58-mm portafilters and the 54-mm portafilters found on many domestic machines. Baratza remains one of the few premium grinder manufacturers focusing on the home market. First and foremost, every electric burr grinder is going to be better than a blade grinder (for reasons discussed above) and better than a manual system for the reasons of physical labor. While I concede that the physical labor of grinding some coffee beans is light when compared to, say, building the Egyptian pyramids, I’d rather not have to do that, especially first thing every morning.
