It was stylish, rugged and took most of the pain out of simple DIY tasks. In fact, we concluded that the IXO 6 was a must-buy. Bosch is a market leader with its IXO range of electric screwdrivers, and we’ve got our hands on the new and improved IXO 7 series. Bosch is still using the same rubber casing to hold the bits in place, meaning a fair amount of force was required to retrieve the desired head, annoying when there’s a piece of structurally unsound furniture that needs screwing together and time is of the essence. Another area that requires an update is the charging port, micro USB is getting long in the tooth and USB-C charging ports are both more robust and more universal. Other items to consider: The new Ixo also boasts improvements in handling, like the new LED light ring that ensures a consistently clear view without any shadows when screwdriving. Ergonomically the Ixo always fits well in the hand thanks to its shape and its extensive soft grip overmoulding. For comparison, my basic Metabo has 34 Newton metres. I can get away with that as long as I don't hit concrete or tiled walls. With the IXO it's not enough for much more than soft wood. Even the cheap part, which is available from Swedish furniture dealers for just under 35 francs, has 16 Newton metres. Bosch and I disagree

If you want your 7 th generation Ixo to be a little more special, Bosch will allow users to individually personalize its box from October. It could be a present for a special someone or to give yourself a little treat – the personal design of the Ixo storage box makes each Ixo unique. The box can be designed either by uploading one's own photo or by selecting a suggested motif at www.bosch-diy.com/shop . In addition, a person's own text can also be inserted.But that's not what the IXO is supposed to measure up to, according to Bosch. It is for everyone, even for those who already own a cordless screwdriver, because the IXO does not compete with them, but with manual screwdrivers. Huh? If you don't feel like screwing furniture together by hand, you buy a cordless screwdriver. And if you don't have a cordless screwdriver, you want to screw furniture together by hand - or at least you do it so rarely that it's not worth the investment. So where is the room for the IXO 7? At most for those who enjoy small gadgets.
