Berlie Doherty was born in Knotty Ash, Liverpool, the youngest of three children. She always wanted to be a writer, but when she was little there were many things she wanted to be - a singer, ballet dancer, air hostess, librarian... Her serious writing started at university, where she trained to be a teacher. Now she lives in an isolated cottage in the country and writes in a barn overlooking the Pennines. This book was not what I was expecting. I only read one book of Morpurgo's before and I was excited to read more. Even though it was not as good as 'Private Peaceful', it still has some pleasant qualities. It is fast paced, unique and there a constant development between the characters. The ending was great. Lynne Reid Banks is a best-selling author for children and adults. Her classic children’s novel ‘The Indian in the Cupboard’ has sold nearly six million copies worldwide. She was born in London in 1929 and worked as an actress, writer and TV news reporter. Lynne has written thirty books: her first, ‘The L-Shaped Room’, was published in 1960. My main reason for reading this was because it was a recommended text for a KS2 mountain based topic. I did enjoy the text once I got past chapter 4 as I found the first few chapters difficult to engage with.
