About this deal

This is so damn chilling and creepy. The atmosphere, the perfect pace and personable characters, make it hard not to get caught up in this story. Its that good. This story had me captivated as I felt so bad for Lauren, the mother of two twin boys who were exchanged for changeling babies. I never knew what to think. I found myself doubting her at times like other characters in the novel. Believing that she was genuinely crazy. She also had a husband who was manipulative and emotionally abusive. Lauren was a character who received my genuine sympathy.

Let me begin this review with saying that I have absolutely no business reviewing an ARC that doesn't even publish until April 2019 when I have so many ARC's pending soon or better yet the ones I'm behind on BUT the synopsis for this is beyond intriguing and it's October when it's time for all things creepy and spooky and this one seemed a perfect choice for the season.Lauren, who is eight months pregnant with twins is absolutely exhausted. Finally, the day comes when the twins (Riley and Morgan) are born. Someone has tried to kidnap her twins and replace them with look a likes. Lauren alerts people for help but she has vanished. No one believes her either. They think Lauren has postpartum. Sutherland, Doris V. (2019-11-26). "Changeling Times: Melanie Golding's Little Darlings". WWAC. Archived from the original on 2023-07-04 . Retrieved 2023-07-04. Rich and satisfying, this is part who-done-it, part fairy tale, part psychological thriller… Will continue to rattle you, long after you have put it down.”

A haunting story about a new mother losing her sanity. Or is she? Golding takes all the anxieties of being a new mom and turns them into a mysterious story that is every mom's worst nightmare. Little Darlings is the debut novel of author Melanie Golding. [1] The book is based on changeling folklore, in which human children are abducted by fairies and replaced with fairy children. [2] It was partly inspired by Golding's personal theory that folktales about changelings were a way to explain postpartum psychosis in premodern times. [3] [4] She had discussed maternal bonding with psychologists and other women and found it was often a gradual process despite the popular perception that mothers will feel a "rush of love" when they first see their child. She described this misconception as a "modern folktale". [4] I read Little Darlings in one sitting. I just couldn't put it down. I love dark fairy tales, brought up on a diet of Grimm and W.B Yeats, later moving onto Graham Joyce and Juliet Marillier. The chilling ideas of changelings, stalking and mental health kept me gripped. You ask yourself throughout, what is real and what is in the main characters head.

I don’t know what I was thinking when I requested the ARC for this book, but you cannot blame me after that blurb. It really is a very interesting one. And I will say this, Melanie Golding did not disappoint. Lizzie Shaw (also referred to as Big Mouth) Danny's new girlfriend who he met at the Milky Star premier. She is an actress who is also in the film. Sunset, Sweetie and Ace all hate her but Suzy even more so as she is very protective of Danny and despises Lizzie very much. Little Darlings by Melanie Golding was a great read. It had the perfect amount of suspense, folk-lore/magic, and police procedure. I don't want to give away any more of the story, but will say that it is mesmerising...is Lauren psychotic or is there something sinister at work? Dark, richly evocative, tense, and thought-provoking. Taps into every woman's fear that she will not be believed."

The main characters were richly developed and interesting. Without giving spoilers I will only say that we can easily visualize what Lauren see's in her "Little Darlings" and empathize with all of her thoughts and feelings.Murdoch, Sarah (2019-05-10). Now imagine this: you awake, startled on the bench, not knowing how long you've been asleep only to see that the stroller and your precious babies are no longer there. I could sympathize with the main character, Lauren, as she struggled to adjust to motherhood, emotion Soon after, the babies seem different. Not only does her husband think that she is suffering from psychosis, but no one else believes her either. Is Lauren losing her mind, or is the curse becoming a reality? As part of Destiny's eleventh birthday, Kate has arranged they go to the London premiere of the film "Milky Star", in which Danny has a cameo as himself, where hopefully they'll be able to meet him and tell him Destiny is his daughter. The plan fails, as only Sunset seems to notice the two. Kate realises she hasn't planned how to get home, and they're stranded in London till morning. She decides they might as well use the time to seek out Danny at his home in Robin Hill. Destiny climbs over the fence and comes across Sunset in the garden. The two become fast friends and Sunset believes her story about them being sisters, but Destiny and Kate get thrown off the premises when Sunset's mother Suzy discovers them. Little Darlings is inspired by dark fairy tales and folklore. This book is sprinkled with quotes and passages referring to "changelings". The folklore and fairy tales fit seamlessly into this tale and further add to the feeling of dread and provide for an eerie atmosphere. The entire book I was guessing just what was going on. Was Lauren correct, was there some sinister woman attempting to swap babies with her, was Lauren experiencing symptoms of post par-tum psychosis. I love trying to figure things out in books, and this one had me guessing! Sunset Kilman – Daughter of Danny and Suzy Kilman. She is six months younger than Destiny and the elder sister of Ace and Sweetie. She does not like being part of a famous family and wishes she could have a life like Destiny's. She looks like her Dad, long dark curly hair and a big nose. She also is a very good songwriter. Poor Sunset is very insecure, due to other people's negative comments towards her. She confides in Destiny, trusting her and forming a very special, precious bond. She is very sensitive to others emotions, and she has a very compassionate and soft nature. She summarizes herself as a sensitive, insecure girl who deeply needs a friend. The realistic fantasy begins, causing you to read faster and faster. Will Lauren be believed? Does her husband help her? Is there a conspiracy? Melanie Golding, the author, convinces you this could happen.
