About this deal

The Sigma Art line was designed for artists who value unbeatable expressive performance over compactness and multifunction. As expected, the Sigma Art series offers premium image quality with a maximum aperture of f/1.4. This feature delivers distinct sharp and crisp photographs in darker venues. Interestingly my comparisons revealed the lens displays greater pincushion distortion than Sigma’s 85mm f1.4 DG HSM Art so some users may want to apply a small amount of manual distortion correction in post. Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG DN Art: Verdict If you want to test a lens, take it out on a moonless night, open the aperture all the way, and shoot some stars, making sure the shutter speed is fast enough, and ISO high enough, so that the stars don't streak and so that faint ones are caught as well as bright ones.

Both lenses come in Sony E mount (Full Frame coverage) with the Sigma having an L-mount version as well. We tested the E-mount on our Sony A7R IV and our A6500 cameras. Hood

when your AF-Sensors are on the Image-Sensor, you will always have the correct distance between Sensor and AF-Sensor, not so on DSLR's

Honestly? If you really like 85mm, whether for serious portraits, low-light journalism, or just casual artistic imagery in general, get this lens to go on your Sony E-mount body, or your Sigma/Panasonic/Leica L-mount body. You won’t regret it. rob the point is that you repeatedly posted false information: "But no adapter allows Eye-AF that I know of" ... which was completely wrong. Overall, this lens is a fantastic addition to a professional or intermediate photographer’s kit and gives your images exceptional sharpness. Focusing As we typically do, we shall start with the design and build before we move over to performance and give you our final verdict. Look...I own the Sigma 20mm, 35mm and 50mm ART lenses. In spite of all the cryin about AF etc....I love mine. Love them. I would consider selling my 35mm to buy the new Canon...but that being said... when it comes to this lens...well...I own the Canon 85mm f/1.2L II. Some of the images I have shot with that lens are just magical. You cannot define them on an MTF curve. I know it focuses slow, has CA etc..etc..etc...but I will not even consider this new Art lens. I mean...I cannot justify owning or carrying both..as this would be good for times of fast focus....but to be honest ..I can just as well put on my 24-70mm zoom or break out the 70-200mm if i must. I just would never replace that 85mm f/1.2. That thing is very special in the rendering and DOF dept. There is magic in there...and those silly Sony lenses have none of that either. Don't really care what anyone thinks. :-)as a long time GM85 user, i can definitely know it's sharpness at F1.4 and i could never seen similar sharpness on Sigma F1.4 shots available on the net so far. GM85 at F1.4, in terms of sharpness, winner. Bokeh is a word used for the out-of-focus areas of a photograph, and is usually described in qualitative terms, such as smooth / creamy / harsh etc. In the Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG HSM for Sony E-Mount lens, Sigma employed an iris diaphragm with 9 rounded blades, which has resulted in very nice bokeh in our view. We do realise, however, that bokeh evaluation is subjective, so we've included several examples below for your perusal. When it comes to portrait lenses, I personnally care a lot more about the overall look of the picture, the transition from in-focus to out-of-focus areas, the bokeh and the 3D pop. The larger focus ring has no hard stops but has a very nice resistance and the rubber finish it has feels better than the metal one on the Sony and easier to turn. I own the Canon 85 f1.2 but the Sony, Sigma and old Sony a mount stf lens (and likely the forthcoming stf) are all very different and all excellent.
