The main buttons are a one piece construction, and they use long-life Steelseries switches. The mouse wheel is a rounded soft, grippy rubber which feels nice to use and press. The CPI button is responsive and not likely to be pressed by accident. The right side is a simple affair, but still fits fingers and thumbs decently. When I did tech support for years, I taught myself to use a mouse left handed, and it’s a good fit in my other hand, and I could use it easily. The ergonomic shape and 6-button right-handed layout were designed to work comfortably with any grip style. The mouse features a soft-touch surface with sculpted side grips that provide a raised texture for maximum comfort, so gamers never lose grip or control in the heat of battle. Make it Yours The Rival 100 comes in a fairly compact form factor. Measuring 4.75 inches tall and 2.65 inches wide, it fits in the palm easily, yet still leaves enough room for you to completely lift your fingers off the mousepad. For this reason, it caters to all three grip styles (palm, claw, and fingertip) very well. Featuring an ambidextrous design, the Rival 100 does not discriminate between hand preferences. The Rival 100 has two lighting areas: the mouse wheel and the SteelSeries logo on the palmwrest. Both areas share the same lighting setting, so you can't configure them independently, unfortunately. Whereas the sides of the Rival 100 are made of plastic, the entire top portion of the unit is coated in a thin layer or rubber. It feels good to the touch but shows hand grease more than matte plastic would.

Ever since my first SteelSeries mouse review, I’ve been a fan of the SteelSeries Engine and the company has been keeping up with updates over the past couple years to it. With the Rival 100, you can easily modify any of the six buttons and the scroll up/down functions. It’s super easy to modify the behaviour of any of these buttons including keystrokes, macros, media buttons, mouse buttons, launching applications, launching configurations, launching engine apps, OS specific shortcuts, and you can even deactivate them if you choose. Underneath the mouse are three smooth feet — one long one at the top going the width of the mouse and two smaller ones near the bottom. The smoothness of the feet makes for some smooth gliding on both mouse pads and smooth surfaces. Finally, the USB cable Left side buttons on the Rival 100. For the review of the Steelseries Rival 100 & Rival 300, I thought I’d do something a little different, a side-by-side to see how these two tiers of gaming mice compare. I have the Steelseries Rival 300 in white on the left, and a red Steelseries Rival 100 on the right. Steelseries is considered to be one of the best gaming mouse manufacturers on the market due to their reputation for quality and the longevity of their products. So let’s see what they got. In addition to turning off the lights entirely, the Rival 100 offers three lighting settings to choose from:You an adjust DPI sensitivity in software as per your sense ( extremely useful) i.e. Acceleration Customization/Deceleration Customization Being a old steeseries user of beast mice like steelseries sensei and kana v2 my expectation from this mouse was high but i must say when i bought this mouse this mouse surpassed my expectation A few customization options are available for the Rival 100 through SteelSeries Engine. For starters, all the buttons are programmable. Another neat feature is the option to set customized macros. And finally, there are the options to adjust CPI settings, lighting, angle snapping, and acceleration settings. You can have multiple configurations for a mouse, and even duplicate or delete the profiles. Polling rate is at 1000 but you can choose 500, 250, or 125. Angle snapping is a nice feature where mostly side to side or up and down movement will correct slightly off trajectories and move the mouse exactly in that direction. I can already see a use case for that in Photoshop. I played around with acceleration and deceleration here, might be useful for snipers in games I think. SteelSeries Engine allows users to map the 6 buttons to custom game controls, adjust optical sensor sensitivity for any style or speed of play and create personalized configurations from acceleration/deceleration to CPI settings.
