About this deal

For me it was my first book from this author really liked the writing style and the story line of this book. I would have given it 5 stars but there is just to many characters, they was kind of need to make the story but for me just to many. Bridgette’s big birthday is nearing and she wishes to celebrate in style alongside her three best friends, Serena, Marjory and Emily. The girls have booked a mini-break at a local spa as each is in desperately in need of rest and recuperation away from their demanding families/partners/daily life. Each needs a form of escapism from their own life and a little adventure at the age of sixty-three.

The Spa Break: A laugh out loud and heartwarming novel about

This boo is in one word; enjoyable! It made me smile all the way through, I really liked the gentle pacing, it’s not taxing and keep you reading and before I knew it I was a good halfway through in one sitting – believe me for an incredibly slow reader who never has two minutes spare is not bad going. The beginning was a bit slow, with a bunch of info dumps. However, Carolina is extremely talented in setting the scene and creating really beautiful visualizations. You could really build a mental image of Sparadise and what each of the characters looked like and how they acted. I was also super confused why this entire book is set in 2018, it seems weird since it's being published in 2022, and I feel like a simple ctrl-f could've replaced the 2-3 references when they say "yay it's 2018" or something and replace it with either 2022 or just take it out of the story because it really adds nothing?I found the characters to be well developed, and multi-dimensional. It’s about being true to yourself, losing you insecurities and making new friends along the way, what a delightful read. Friendship is the glue that binds the women together and keeps them grounded. It is clear that they just want each other to be happy. You find out some surprising secrets that at least one of them is hiding. Of the three , it seems that Jane changes the most as she gains confidence and loses her self consciousness. With some laugh out loud moments and lively characters, this proves to be a light hearted read and ideal for an escapist holiday read.

The Cruise by Caroline James | WHSmith

A laugh out loud, naughty, enlightening heart-warming story about friendship and discovery’ Yours Magazine That’s where everything starts – and suffice to say that by the end of their glorious weekend they’ve all been very much transformed by their various adventures and experiences. I’m guessing we’ve all read the books about a group of twenty-something friends taking a break and finding it life-changing – it’s so much more fun with these rather more mature ladies, who throw themselves into their stay with total abandon and a loud whoop of sheer joy. They decided before arriving that they’d each do their own thing, meeting to catch up now and again – and by the time they all come together at Bridgette’s spectacular last night party, they’ve all changed beyond recognition, and only for the better in so many ways. Serena, once a famous tv chef has been replaced by the younger hotter model and her husband is now a brooding and withdrawn partner. This book is beautifully written with vivid descriptions and stunning surroundings I was absolutely captivated throughout. The cover and the synopsis work perfectly with the storyline. Marjory has an empty nest and very little in common with her husband. Sex is a thing of the past and she feels trapped in her marriage.I had a bit of a confession to make- yes yet another one. Although I have a few of Caroline’s books on my ‘to be read’ mountain, I haven’t actually read one yet. What a mistake to make as the saying goes. ‘The Spa Break’ is being marketed as being perfect reading for fans of Judy Leigh and Maddie Please. I am a huge fan of both authors and so I knew that I was going to enjoy ‘The Spa Break’. I was spot on too because I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘The Spa Break’ but more about that in a bit. The conversation that follows leads to a Caribbean Christmas Cruise being booked aboard an over fifties ship called The Diamond Star, the ladies are hoping for new beginnings and doing something for themselves for a change and enjoying life. I am not a great reader of romantic comedy, but I really enjoy Caroline James’ books. Not just because the protagonists are ladies in their sixties having a fabulous time, but because everything about them and their adventures is so beautifully observed and the pathos and humour eased out. What follows is a lovely story of making new friends, being your true self for the first time in your life and letting go of all your insecurities and loving life. Praise for Caroline James: ‘Fabulous to read…It’s about a girls’ weekend with characters in their 60s and determined to have a good time ’ Woman & Home Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Caroline James, One More Chapter Publishing and Rachel's Random resources Tours.
