Wiccan wedding ceremonies are usually called handfastings, in which a couple's hands are bound with a cord to symbolize their unions. Learn more about the Wiccan version of this ceremony here.

The study of history may not be a lifetime pursuit like many of the above disciplines, but there is certainly enough out there to last you several years. Wicca for Beginners In making the circle, one must summon the elements and the deities. In the end, the circle will be broken and, little by little, the participants will return to the present. It is allowed to serve some food or drink to aid in relaxation at this point. Your view on this religion has helped me realize I was looking in the wrong place for my research. I would always head straight to the Wicca Section of the bookstore and grab the books that I felt had real meaning. Turns out most of it is hogwash. Unfortunate for me, but at least now I can read the facts and turn around and say I know what is real! Not all books on shelves are facts, even when they claim to be. Sometimes, you have to leave your comfort zone and read other material to find the hidden truths. Do you know a Wiccan mom? Maybe your own mom is Wiccan. If you're struggling with gift ideas for Mother's Day, consider some of these. The seat of worship is generally the altar-- but what type do you have? What type do you need? Get the basics of the most basic of tools-- the place where you would lay all the rest of them: the altar.

This is one of the oldest pieces of knowledge to humankind. People have been using herbal tea to heal or stimulate or relax for as long as people have been cooking. When you're a minor, or even an adult living (or staying) in someone's house, they should be respected. If they think Wicca is evil, don't perform rituals in their home. If you're a minor and your father says don't read Wiccan books while you're there, then don't bring those books. I would not disrespect their beliefs, their God, their religion or practices. If they did want you to go to church, then go, and sit politely. If they wanted to say grace, bow your head and listen. Be polite at their holidays, etc. Having a standard ritual opening and closing is a great way to promote ritual consciousness and gain confidence so your experiences will be deep and meaningful. Here's one to use or adapt!

This is a very nice hub. I have found that I love your insight on information such as this. It is very eye opening. I look forward to reading more of your thoughts and writings. Blessed be! So now that you’ve decided that you would like to learn more about becoming Wiccan, how do you go about it? Firstly, read everything you can get your hands on! A couple of helpful books are Wicca for Beginners: Fundamentals of Philosophy & Practice by Thea Sabin and Wicca; A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner by Scott Cunningham, although this one is rather outdated now. Hi SFIAOgirl, good to 'see' you. Sounds like you're off to a good start. As for Conway, I would warn you that she's known for being a horrible scholar, particularly when it comes to history, mythology and Pagan cultures. I wonder if the woman has actually ever read a reputable history book in her life, honestly. Not saying her work has no value-- she's very creative and has some great ideas for ritual, magic, celebrations, etc.; I keep a few of her books on the shelf and raid them occasionally when I need inspiration in designing a ritual. I just wouldn't rely on her too much for factual details. Remember the story of the boy who cried 'wolf'? Let's talk about the Wiccans who cry 'persecution'... a lot.

Many people use these terms interchangeably, but they're not actually synonymous. If you're not sure if you're Wiccan or Pagan, let me explain. If you've ever read a book about Wicca you've probably been told to do any and all of these things-- but did you ever really stop to think what they are, or what they're about? Let's take a look...
