About this deal

The Outlander, a wanted assassin who is called to kill Simplicity and Dodger. The authorities have been finding it hard to catch a man who seems to look different every time he commits a crime, failing to notice that there is always the same woman at his side. Did you know you can flag iffy content? Adjust limits for Language in your kid's entertainment guide. Get started Close She popped in the first CD, and we began one of the most unexpectedly enjoyable books of the year. And yes, it is the same Terry Pratchett of Discworld fame. Simplicity. Could you have been more of a non-entity love interest? Probably not. And I felt that for losing her baby, she really didn't have the proper reaction. At all. A brand new edition of a Terry Pratchett classic – set in Victorian London, and starring cunning but kind Dodger, as he sets off on a whirlwind adventure through the city streets

What I'm clumsily trying to say is that it's impossible for me to now separate the man from his writing, and to separate his writing from my own life. He is his writing, it is the expression of his philosophy and his social conscience. His writing has been a constant presence for more than half my life. Discworld has been the stage for his social commentary, one that has always resonated with my personal values. One with a special humour, Monty Pythonesque and quintessentially British in flavour. There ought to be a law against it; everybody said so - it was, well, it was unfair. After all, seeing policemen around kept you honest, didn't it? If they were going to lurk around like ordinary people they were basically asking you to commit crimes, weren't they? It was entirely unfair in Dodger’s opinion. Dodger is produced by NBCUniversal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group. Francis Gilson is Producer. Mark Freeland is Executive Producer for NBCUniversal International Studios. Rhys Thomas and Lucy Montgomery also serve as Executive Producers. NBCUniversal Global Distribution is handling international sales. The Commissioning Editor for the BBC is Amy Buscombe. Henry Mayhew, is a friend of Charlie who (together with his wife) first takes care of Simplicity while she recovers. He is also very interested in improving the conditions for London's poorest citizens. The novel is dedicated to the real Mayhew in honour of his work drawing attention to the plight of London's poorest through his book London Labour and the London Poor.displays the fighting skills of Greebo: the skinny teenager easily outmanoeuvres the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and professional assassins the truth is a fog, in which one man sees the heavenly host and the other one sees a flying elephant.” Sir Terry Pratchett is most famous for his Discworld series, which is already running 39 books, and although I have given these books a fair chance I just never could quite get into them. When the chance arose to review Dodger, a stand-alone young-adult book, I just had to give it another shot. From the short synopsis I didn't really know what I was in for, but it turned out to be unique, fresh and gave me a sense of urgency to finish it.

I wasn't feeling the love. They just ...were. Also, (yes, they attempted to fix this at the end and her husband was trash) she was still married at the end. The Executive Producer is Sara Harkins and Tali Walters is Genre Lead for BBC Children’s In House Drama Production. Jamie Johnson

Princess Mirror-Belle

Angela Burdett-Coutts, an independent woman who inherited a large sum of money and who uses her wealth and connections to help those who need it. She takes in Simplicity after it became clear that she was not safe at Mayhew's house and uses her resources to protect her. Given the unpredictability of the local water supply, most of the characters, including 17-year-old Dodger, drink beer, cider, and wine. But Dodger is careful not to become vulnerably inebriated. Where the blip was, for me, was when marriage was considered and executed . . . .all along I felt this character was much younger somewhere from 14 - 18. . . .not a person others in the story, including the love interest who seemed older, thought was 18+ and marriageable - just seemed mighty abrupt. . . anyway, may have just been me not in sync. I got slightly bored at times when we are told over and over again how he's a dodger, a tosher, a geezer, a cove and what all these terms mean, and I wasn't really convinced of the INSTA-LOVE between Simplicity and himself. i can see what he saw in her, but the other way, was so easy to swallow. In Victorian times, if a woman were treated cruelly by her husband, what were her options? How have attitudes about domestic violence changed over the past two centuries?

A rare, unexpected moment that works makes us sympathize with a tortured Sweeney Todd, traumatized by the battlefields of the Napoleonic Wars. Dodger made haste towards the house of the Mayhews while in his mind he saw the cheerful face and hooked nose of Mister Punch, beating his wife, beating the policeman and throwing the baby away, which made all the children laugh. Why was that funny, he thought? Was that funny at all? He’d lived for seventeen years on the streets, and so he knew that, funny or not, it was real. Not all the time, of course, but often when people had been brought down so low that they could think of nothing better to do than punch: punch the wife, punch the child and then, sooner or later, endeavour to punch the hangman, although that was the punch that never landed and, oh how the children laughed at Mister Punch! But Simplicity wasn't laughing...” The series is written by Rhys Thomas and Lucy Montgomery with Charlie Higson guest writing an episode. Rhys Thomas also directs alongside Hildegard Ryan.

The thing about secrets is that they are usually best kept by just one person. That was the special thing about secrets. Some people seemed to think that the best way to keep a secret was to tell as many people as possible; what could possibly go wrong for a secret when there were so many people defending it?” Seventeen-year-old Dodger may be a street urchin, but he gleans a living from London's sewers, and he knows a jewel when he sees one. He's not about to let anything happen to the unknown girl--not even if her fate impacts some of the most powerful people in England. Being set in London at the time that it was, there was, of course, some crude comments and innuendo, though not overly so. And on this dirty night there were appropriately dirty deeds that not even the rain could wash away.”
