Hawk locates his old friends: Gort, a giant who wields a war hammer; Crow, an elf who uses a bow; and Baldin, a dwarf skilled with a whip. The five warriors travel to the convent and fight Voltan's men. It is not enough though and Voltan threatens to kill the Abbess. Voltan still demands the ransom. Hawk steals gold from a slave trader to pay the ransom. Garth Ennis of The Boys and Preacher will helm the series with Judge Dredd artist Henry Flint doing the illustrations.

Ennis' first work on an American comic came in 1991 when he took over DC Comics's horror title Hellblazer, which he wrote until 1994, and for which he currently holds the title for most issues written. Steve Dillon became the regular artist during the second half of Ennis's run. In 2022 a Hawk the Slayer comic was published in the Judge Dredd Megazine (in supplements to issues 440 to 444) and separately as a limited series, written by Garth Ennis with art by Henry Flint. The story is a sequel to the film. The tale left an impression on a young Ennis, and now the writer known for The Boys and Preacher gets to share a continuing saga with art by Judge Dredd artist Henry Flint and covers by Magic the Gathering artist Greg Staples .

Ennis: Once Rebellion heard I was interested they brought out the big guns. Henry Flint is very much 2000 AD A-list, and Greg Staples has been doing astonishing, movie poster-style covers for as long as I can remember. I really wasn't much of a fan of the movie but I respect what Ennis was doing with this graphic novel sequel.

After the end of Hitman, Ennis was lured to Marvel Comics with the promise from Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada that he could write The Punisher as long as he cared to. Instead of largely comical tone of these issues, he decided to make a much more serious series, re-launched under Marvel's MAX imprint. HAWK THE SLAYER (A)". In the course of writing the script, he then introduced the magical mind stone, changing the overall nature. The film had an initial negative reception but has since developed a cult following. [4] Sequels were planned, but never produced.Voltan appears at the convent, interrupting the nuns' mass and kidnapping the Abbess, demanding a large sum of gold as a ransom. After Voltan and his henchmen leave with the Abbess, the nuns tell Ranulf to seek the High Abbot at the Fortress of Danesford. Ennis: Not at the moment. I pretty much scratched the Hawk The Slayer itch with these five issues. But something may well occur once the series sees print. Sometimes the way people respond to a story will get you thinking about it in a different way.
