About this deal

Due to available space limitation, that's all for tonight although I would like to introduce to you a converter lens attachable to this camera. Let's carry it over to next time. The Nikon Coolpix 4300 is a digital camera that was made by Nikon. It was first released on October 1, 2002, and is no longer in production. At 4.0 effective megapixels, it is capable of delivering 2,272 × 1,704 pixel images. An included lens cap protects its Nikkor 3× optical Zoom lens, with a focal length of 8 to 24mm (equivalent of a field of view in 38 to 114mm lens), as well as an aperture of f/2.8–4.9 and shutter speed of 8–1/1,000 sec. It is capable of ISO equivalents of 100, 200, and 400. This is my ultimate "resolution shot," given the infinite range of detail in a natural scene like this, and the Coolpix 4300 performs very well. The tree limbs over the roof and fine foliage in front of the house show excellent detail, with strong definition in the leaf patterns and branch details. The image is pretty sharp corner to corner, with just a hint of the corner softness that plagues many consumer digicam lenses. The camera loses detail in the bright white paint surrounding the bay window, a trouble spot for many digicams. At the same time, the shadow area above the front door shows moderate detail but a fair bit of image noise, pointing to a somewhat limited dynamic range. The Auto white balance produces good color, though exposure is a bit contrasty. The table below shows a standard resolution and quality series, followed by ISO and sharpness series. All in all though, a very capable camera for low light shooting. The table below shows the best exposure we were able to obtain for each of a range of illumination levels. Images in this table (like all of our sample photos) are untouched, exactly as they came from the camera.

Nikon Coolpix 4300 review: Nikon Coolpix 4300 - CNET

Excellent low-light performance: Great color balance, fairly low noise, but no AF assist light, and no distance readout in manual focus mode. The COOLPIX 4300 has only two aperture stops, the maximum and minimum. A part of the reason why there are only two aperture stops is that the sufficient depth of field can be obtained even with the maximum aperture as described before. Another reason is an effect of light diffraction. We got good battery life out of the Coolpix 4300, even though the LCD indicator showed a deceptive half-power icon for most of our shooting time. The included rechargeable lithium-ion battery held out for about 200 shots with heavy LCD use and continuous autofocus engaged. This Coolpix can also be powered by a disposable 2CR5 lithium battery--a boon to travelers. Nikon maintains its reputation for producing high-quality photos with the Coolpix 4300. Its photos showed realistically rendered colors and balanced exposures, and although they're not the sharpest or most detailed we've seen from a 4-megapixel camera, they're certainly among the best in their class. Noise in low-light situations is kept to a minimum, even without the additional help of the camera's selectable noise-reduction feature. Nikon Coolpix 4300 - Wikipedia

Slightly low flash power, with a range closer to 8 feet in our tests than the 12 feet of Nikon's specs. High resolution, 1,050 - 1,100 lines of "strong detail." About average barrel distortion, and low pincushion. Overall results are similar to the wider shot above, and the Coolpix 4300's 3x zoom lens helps prevent distortion of Marti's features. Detail is outstanding, with very sharp details in Marti's face and hair. (Probably more detail here than Marti would care to see, which is why I don't show it to her 1:1 on screen;-) The shot at right was taken at the default exposure setting, which is just a little bright, but loses only the brightest highlights. Detail is strong in the shadow areas, with moderately low noise. An excellent job. The extreme tonal range of this image makes it a tough shot for many digicams, which is precisely why I set it up this way, and why I shoot it with no fill flash or reflector to open the shadows. The object is to hold both highlight and shadow detail without producing a "flat" picture with muddy colors, and the Coolpix 4300 did a good job. Resolution is very high, and details are sharp throughout the frame. Shadow detail is fairly strong, with fairly low noise. And with the fast lens, the faster shutter speed can be used, so a hand-held shot is possible with no handshake without stable holding with a tripod when the ambient conditions permit. For shots like daily box lunch, record of assembling a model, new growth of cultivating plants a photo of merchandise for internet auction and the like, the ease-of-use COOLPIX is the best. It can be said that the macro photography is what the digital camera is most good at. (see sample 4) This article does not cite any sources. The 4300 has a feature that I've seen on a few other digicams, but would like to see on all of them: A "tweak" adjustment that lets you bias the camera's default white balance settings towards yellow or blue. This is great because I rarely find a camera's white balance that does exactly what I want it to. The example below shows the effect of the white balance tweak adjustments applied to the incandescent setting on this subject. Moreover, this macro photography brings about an advantage that the close-up photography is taken readily with the deep depth of filed as described in the foregoing. The Coolpix 4300 offers variable ISO settings ranging from 100 to 400. Noise at 100 is pretty low, but as always increases along with the ISO. At ISO 400, it's quite pronounced, but no worse than the majority of consumer-level digicams out there.
