About this deal

After the sudden death of her husband, Patricia Greystone is left with nothing, and at twenty-four, she finds herself a penniless widow. As the youngest child of a large family, she has always been headstrong and proud – so she’s determined not to return to her family cap in hand. Instead she strikes out on her own. Don't miss the third book in the heartwarming six-part series from the No.1 Sunday Times bestselling author Dilly Court! Personally, I had been married for 26 years when Mike died. I chose to change my name. My maiden name became my middle name, and I took his last name. That was the summer before I started teaching. As a student teacher in college I had gone by the name of Miss Sanders. My parents, and even a grandmother, was a teacher so hearing adults called by Mrs. —– or Mr. ___ was completely normal for me.

I loved my husband every day of his life and I was very proud to be his wife. Why would anyone assume that I do not wish to be called Mrs. knowing that ALL the divorced women were still using the title? Patricia or Patsy by her family has a marriage of convenience to Lord Greystone, she married a older gentleman that has money and power and Patricia now Lady Greystone and enjoys all the money and lifestyle it has to offer but she is content. Anyway, I bring this up because this issue blindsided me this school year. For 29 years, I have worked in elementary schools and been referred to as Mrs. Divers. It is sort of who I am. I am a teacher.

I found it easier to shop orhave a meal out, by myself, if I am not in my home town. As a local school teacher I tend to run into people I know if I shop or go out near home. I was in a very good marriage for 26 years. I liked being married. It wasn’t always easy but we worked through the tough times and learned to love and appreciate each other more and more as the years went on. Today was one of the longest days at sea since we did not arrive in Vienna until 7:00 pm. The scenic river ride, meals and presentation on coffee and the coffee houses of Vienna kept us entertained.

My husband was my best friend. He adored me and made me happy. We looked forward to our evenings together even the simple times like eating dinner and watching TV. Our morning involved a scenic sailing with commentary from our program director. At 12:30 we arrived after lunch and boarded buses to Melk Abbey, the only excursion this day. We broke into small groups and a guide walked us through rooms filled with artifacts and medieval manuscripts. The view from the terrace of the valley and the Danube river is breathtaking and we enjoyed wandering through the colorful church and wooded gardens before leaving the Abbey and joining the bus in a new location up the river. This evening our director provided us with a German language lesson followed by music from the onboard musician. Day 6 – Passau – Germany This wasn’t too bad. I mentioned to our school secretaries that I prefer to stay Mrs. and the people I told were super nice and understanding. They thought I wanted the change because it made me sound younger. Does it? I thought that was what hair dye was for. Wasn't sure if I would enjoy this one as much as I really disliked Patricia Carey in the previous two books in this series. However, she eventually grew on me, when she began to lose her airs and graces and was more respectful to people, she was a lot more likeable. The dark streets of London are the perfect place to hide from the world, and Patricia makes her living singing on the streets. But the city is a dangerous place. We dined for lunch in the Ratskeller but only had a choice of two meals. I would rather have found a better place to eat like the famous Hofbrau house that we did walk through on our tour – if I only knew then… For the amount of money we spent on this excursion, the meal should have been better. After lunch, we had free time, but since it was Sunday the stores were all closed. This is a law in Germany. Turns out it was a huge Pride festival with bands and DJs on every street, lots of people in rainbow colored outfits and just a big old party. Fun to witness as well. Day 8 – Nuremberg – Germany Well, just like the wearing a wedding ring or not, this issue got heated. Do Widows Wear Wedding Rings? The last place we stopped on our bike ride was the Franz Kafka museum. We did not go inside, but there is a funny statue outside of two men having a peeing contest over the map of the Czech Republic. Not really sure the meaning of this one, but it is entertaining. The exact same thing happened to me in my small school district. I was married for 26 years and taught as Mrs. F for the entire time. I was very hurt when all of a sudden, I was being referred to as Ms. F.

Before the trip, Viking sends you information about the different shore excursions. Each day one guided tour is included but you do have the option to sign up for additional excursions for an additional cost. Day -1 – Budapest Well, this can certainly be a touchy subject. Like most everything after the loss of a spouse, the decision on which name you would like to be referred to is an important choice for each woman. Not sure what they expect to hear, but they can’t imagine how I am doing and I don’t want to go into it so I usually would say “I’m Ok” or “taking it one day at a time”. Then I redirect the conversation to my kids or their kids if they have some. Eating out someplace like the food court in a mall I guess I’ve never that about this before since I don’t really know if I’ll ever get married. However, I think that if I do get married, I’ll definitely change my last name to my husband’s.

When I was ready, I embraced my feelings. It took time, and honestly some therapy, but I did face my grief and trudged through the pain. My friend and I trieda Meet Up in New York City where we went on a scavenger hunt competition. We had fun running around Manhattan taking pictures, but we didn’t meet anyone new that day. The secondmeet upI went on was to the Bronx Zoo. I went by myself and enjoyed walking around the zoo with the group. I did speak to one woman who spent the whole time telling me how sad and lonely she was. I would suggest chatting about other things with strangers.
