About this deal

His first children's book was The Gremlins, about mischievous little creatures that were part of RAF folklore. The book was commissioned by Walt Disney for a film that was never made, and published in 1943. Dahl went on to create some of the best-loved children's stories of the 20th century, such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda and James and the Giant Peach.

Twits are ugly people who do horrible things to each other and others. They are not nice, and they are negative people who have been negative so long that the negativity has made them ugly. The Twits". Vanguard Animation. Archived from the original on 15 April 2012 . Retrieved 21 January 2012. By April 2022, an animated television series for Netflix was turned into a feature film. [20] An animated film, directed by Phil Johnston, is scheduled for release in 2025. [21] Relations to other Roald Dahl books [ edit ] So in typical Roald Dahl fashion they get exactly what is coming to them. They may be caricatures, though they are a very good example to children about why we should never hate. Even though they are horrible, hating them is the wrong thing to do because we are just as bad as them. Toxic people should be removed from our lives. There’s no point hating them, just walk away from them like the animals attempt to do here.Quentin Blake has been drawing ever since he can remember. And, now at the age of sixty, he was a bigger twit than ever. The Twits are ugly people - through and through. They think nothing of animal neglect or outright abuse. They are horrible to each other and everyone around them. Take your class around the world with the help of some rather peculiar insects. Mrs. Twit is the hideously ugly, menacing wife of Mr. Twit. She is said to have quite a nice face once, but her ugly thoughts began to show on her face until she was so ugly, you couldn't bear to look at her. This story follows Mr. and Mrs. Twit — who are the miserable owners of a dangerous amusement park — and their meteoric rise to power in their town. The Twits’ takeover leads to an ongoing conflict between them, two children, and a community of magical animals who are determined to stop them. I originally read this book in either elementary school or middle school and really enjoyed it. Since I am reading all of Roald Dahl's books again, I thought "why not," and re-read this one. Surprisingly, I don't remember this story at all. My birds and I got into a big literary debate this morning. The book was Dahl's The Twits. Lester the Molestor maintains that I would be more delicious in a pie. My vote is for a hearty bird pie. You are what you eat. Who would want to be me? There is a big hungry gator waiting for us to decide. She said we might settle it over a scrabble game... We lost. It was Lester's fault! He doesn't know enough Q words.... Los cretinos, bueno son exactamente eso, un matrimonio tan horripilante por fuera como por dentro y por supuesto los finales de Dahl siempre dejan al lector con una sonrisa enorme. What a lot of hairy-faced men there are around nowadays. When a man grows hair all over his face it is impossible to tell what he really looks like. Perhaps that’s why he does it. He’d rather you didn’t know. Then there’s the problem of washing. When the very hairy ones wash their faces, it must be as big a job as when you and I wash the hair on our heads. So what I want to know is this. How often do all these hairy-faced men wash their faces? Is it only once a week, like us, on Sunday nights? And do they shampoo it? Do they use a hairdryer? Do they rub hair-tonic in to stop their faces from going bald? Do they go to a barber to have their hairy faces cut and trimmed or do they do it themselves in front of the bathroom mirror with nail-scissors? I don’t know. But next time you see a man with a hairy face (which will probably be as soon as you step out on to the street) maybe you will look at him more closely and start wondering about some of these things.” Taylor, Drew (20 April 2022). "Netflix Animation Erased: Executives Fired, Shows Canceled and Accusations of 'Staged Data' (Exclusive)". Yahoo! . Retrieved 20 April 2022. A few key plot points are perhaps a bit too easily glossed over, perhaps because Dahl is writing for a younger audience than his longer books like Matilda and The Witches - it is a much shorter book than either and feels a bit rushed towards the end.

The book opens with a rather strange tirade against men with beards. But fair enough, it's just a fashion choice. What I found far less palatable as something being channeled into the heads of children was the assertion that ugly people are evil (have ugly thoughts). This is basically an extension of medieval thinking to the end that bad things happen to bad people and if misfortune befalls someone it's safe to assume that they had it coming. And the monkeys are a bit underwritten compared to the title characters. It’s a similar setup to Fantastic Mr Fox except, whereas Boggis, Bunce and Bean are as wonderfully vicious as Mr and Mrs Twit, the monkeys and the Roly-Poly Bird are nowhere near as fully realised as Mr Fox, his family and friends. Kirka, Danica. "Critics reject changes to Roald Dahl books as censorship". abc NEWS . What a lot of hairy-faced men there are around nowadays»Ugly, dirty and bad. It's not about the movie of Ettore Scola about the slums, with Nino Manfredi as memorable protagonist. We are talking, instead, about the Twits, Mr and Mrs Twits, spending their days tremendously pranking each other with jokes of unnecessary cruelty. Mr Twits, moreover, has his own dreams: training monkeys to carry out acts upside down. In short, the Twits are evil. Tominey, Camilla. "Thank heavens for Queen Camilla, who saved Britain from Roald Dahl censorship". The Daily Telegraph. London, England: Telegraph Media Group. ISSN 0307-1235. OCLC 49632006. Archived from the original on 26 February 2023 . Retrieved 27 February 2023. Mr. Twit then frightens her by claiming that she has contracted an illness called the 'shrinks', by which she will be caused to disappear. Mr. Twit then claims that to cure the shrinks, Mrs. Twit will have to be 'stretched'. Mr. Twit then ties Mrs. Twit up in the garden to 60 gas balloons intending to leave her there for a while to teach her a lesson.

Mr. Twit puts a frog in Mrs. Twit’s bed and says that it is a Giant Skillywiggler… Draw what a Skillywiggler might look like. The Twits, who were once retired circus trainers, continuously abuse a family of monkeys (known as the Muggle-Wumps) that are in their care. Spurred on by their desire to create the first "upside-down monkey circus," the Twits force the Muggle-Wumps to endure grueling training every day by threatening to beat them if they do not submit. They also keep a family of pet monkeys, the Muggle-Wumps. The Twits, who are retired circus trainers, are trying to create the first upside-down monkey circus. They will always demand the monkeys stand on their heads for hours on end. If a person has ugly thoughts, it begins to show on the face. And when that person has ugly thoughts every day, every week, every year, the face gets uglier and uglier until you can hardly bear to look at it. What a lot of hairy-faced men there are around these days. When a man grows hair all over his face it is impossible to tell what he really looks like. Perhaps that's why he does it.He'd rather you didn't know.I do love this quote. The Twits are the epitome of nastiness and everything a person shouldn’t be. They are vile and small, silly little people that enjoy inflicting pain on others for no reason other than their own amusement. It’s a new kind,” Mrs. Twit said, taking a mouthful from her own plate which of course had no worms. “It’s called Squiggly Spaghetti. It’s delicious. Eat it up while it’s nice and hot.” Anyway, I don't recommend this one, especially not to read to your kids. It's a little too stuffed with meanness, and it was annoying to explain why awful ideas like "ugly people are ugly because they had such ugly thoughts" aren't true, at bedtime. As part of a plan to make Mrs. Twit feel that she is shrinking, he slowly extended her chair and cane until she was convinced that she was getting shorter.
