Yearbook printing companies usually have representatives who work with the adviser and staff at each school to assist in the creation of the yearbook. Armistice Day: A Collection of Remembrance - Spark Interest and Educate Children about Historical Moments At the same time Paige decides to release her feelings about her complex life by pencilling in the phrase "I exist" in the margins of a library book. Then she notices someone has replied in red pen. This is the start of a written friendship which is reminiscent of The Twelve Days of Dash and Lily. When the red pen author is revealed as Elijah, a good looking, witty and quirky sixth former, Paige finds her confidence faltering initially, but they do have common ground. Elijah is intuitive to her feelings and full of great advice. Thank goodness her Aunt Polly, a cancer survivor and crazy cat lady, takes Paige under her wing too. With the knowledge of people who she can trust standing up for her, Paige starts to work through her feelings about her abusive home life, the loss of a friendship and standing up to the bullying popular group.

With the confidence from finally being heard - a side story romance that is straight from the silver screen in its adorable factor - Paige decides it’s time to tell her truth. In South Africa, it is not as common to find yearbooks in schools as it is in countries such as the US and Canada, though several schools allocate annual funding and publish yearbooks at the end of the school year (November or December). These yearbooks closely resemble those found in the US, with columns about certain themes, in-depth coverage of major events, and large collections of photos, as well as drawings reflecting daily life at these schools. The romance - well, I think they worked really well as friends. I was actually half expecting Red Pen to be one of the popular girls, to make a point about subversion, but it worked really well this way too. They made a great team and I loved their enthusiasm about books. (It's always the same books though! No one ever loves the less famous novels.)

The Yearbook really rekindled my love for Holly Bourne’s writing! At first, I was a bit worried by the tone that it was going to be very dark throughout but, considering the heavy material (TW: bullying and domestic abuse) which is handled sensitively, I was surprised to find a lightness and humour to balance. The concept and layout of the book was really well done and I loved Paige’s personality and how she grew as a character. Her friendship with “Red Pen” finally gives her confidence (and a newfound voice to stand up to those bullies),she decides to make The Yearbook her battleground. I really felt like I was right alongside Paige and felt everything she felt. I got so angry at times, I wanted to smash things and I just found it so important in every way.

The actors are both new and do a phenomenal job in this film, which is a story about how memories helped two people reconnect and get through a crisis together. The story is set in the early 2000s and they manage to set that time period really well, with the main characters in high school at the beginning and then again 4 years later. But I adored how they found each other. It was unique to me, and it was so satisfying and exciting to read. Another fabulous, undeniably readable, belter of a young adult novel from the inimitable Holly Bourne! Holly captured life in Year 11 in a British school just perfectly and it was completely refreshing as often YA fiction is set in US high schools (at least in my reading experience).
