About this deal

However, I always have to make two knots or the laces untie at some point while I'm walking. It's not that big of a painpoint but it does take longer to untie them again after the walk. The Outline GTX comes in two versions: The Salomon Outline Low GTX hiking shoes that I have (both available in waterproof and non-waterproof) and a mid-high version (waterproof only).

OUTLINE PRISM GTX | Salomon

Elevate your athletic performance with Salomon trainers. Designed for those who demand the best, these trainers combine functionality and style seamlessly. Whether you're a dedicated runner, a fitness enthusiast, or a sports enthusiast, these trainers provide the perfect blend of support, comfort, and responsiveness. Salomon went classic with regular flat laces on the Outline GTX. This type of laces reduces discomfort for the instep, guaranteeing a comfortable fit. They're also durable and easy to tie. Of all hiking footwear brands, Salomon is at the top of the heap in terms of build quality—we’ve had very few issues with the brand to date. Out of the box, the Salomon OUTline Low GTX was noticeably light in its construction but seemed to be right in line with what we’ve come to expect. However, after our initial hike, we noticed that the low-profile rubber toe cap already had begun to peel away. On one shoe, it’s already separated, and simply pushing down on the toe of the other caused it to separate. In our opinion, that’s unacceptable and something that shouldn’t happen until way down the road when the rest of the shoe is starting to give out. No other part on the shoe indicates durability issues, but we sincerely hope that Salomon improves the connection point at the toe cap. If you're looking for a lightweight, sturdy walking shoe with lots of grip that still looks nice enough to wear around town, I can recommend the Salomon Outline GTX. Waterproof tops water resistance and water repellency. However, just like bulletproof vests cannot protect against certain types of bullets, the GORE-TEX outline is unable to keep water from seeping through in certain conditions. One of the first days I wore the shoes on our trip, it was pouring rain and, unfortunately, my feet didn't stay entirely dry.In general, Salomon shoes tend to run a bit narrow, and the OUTline is no exception. The shoe is on the snug end of the spectrum both in the middle of the foot and toe box, and does not come in wide sizes. If you have narrow feet, this shoe likely will fit you well, and those with regular feet should try them on beforehand to make a determination. In terms of sizing, the OUTline fits true. Our testers bought their regular sizes (9 and 12) and both were the correct length. Finally, we recommend wearing these shoes around town or at home before hitting the trail. Some lightweight hiking shoes manage to fit great out of the box, but we had some mild discomfort after putting in a decently long day right off the bat. When I first got these Salomon hiking sneakers, I took them to Australia for a three-week trip full of hikes through the bush, in humid rainforest, and along beaches. They served me well and have remained comfortable on the walks I've done since then. These Salomon trek shoes come in full and half sizes for men and women. Anatomically, slim is the sneaker’s fit. It’s true to size. I have a European 38 and rather slim feet. The 38 fits me perfectly. Lightweight and thoughtfully designed. The OUTline has the feel of a running shoe but with the sole and traction of a hiker. Stability-wise, several features accommodate tread and steadiness, namely, the outsole’s relatively wide base (wide in comparison to its fit). Combined with the 5 mm lugs, both elements guarantee smoothe hiking on whatever trail you choose.

These Salomon sneakers are also stitch-free, light, and slim fit, giving it a snug-like feel that complements its overall aesthetics. These Salomon trainers are equipped with a High Traction Contagrip outsole. In case you're not familiar with the design, it leverages three factors to ensure the best grip possible: Density, Compound, and Geometry. Last but not least, the lugs, which are 5 mm in depth, present 27 different geometries to finish off the surface-gripping formula. No mud can ever hinder your pace since the lugs are well-spaced enough to let the mud come off on its own.Salomon hiking boots and walking shoes are the ultimate companions for hikers seeking unbeatable performance and comfort. Engineered with advanced features such as Gore-Tex technology, these boots offer waterproof protection while allowing your feet to breathe, ensuring you stay dry and comfortable throughout your outdoor adventures. The expression light as a feather comes to mind when someone mentions the Salomon Outline GTX. Weighing 350 g for the men’s version and 290 g for the women’s, they help you increase speed and don't make your legs feel like they're lugging something around – as can sometimes be the case with heavy walking boots. Lacing is as important as any other performance factor. If your laces are hard to tie or keep getting loose, they can be a real pain. On the outside, the upper is comprised of anti-debris mesh (keeps debris from sneaking inside), synthetic material (sustains durability and protection from outdoor activities), and the GORE-TEX membrane (found in the waterproof version). We put the men’s Salomon OUTward Mid GTX through its paces for this review, and Salomon makes the shoe in a women’s-specific version for the same price. The women’s OUTward Mid GTX features an identical build but weighs slightly less at 1 pound 11.5 ounces and is offered in different colorways. As we mentioned above, neither model is sold in a non-waterproof version yet, but we hope Salomon adds a more breathable, non-GTX design to the collection in the future.

Salomon OUTline Hiking Shoe Review | Switchback Travel

At 1 pound 8.6 ounces for the Low GTX men’s version, the OUTline undercuts Salomon’s popular X Ultra 3 GTX (1 lb. 10.8 oz.) and XA Pro 3D V8 (1 lb. 10.1 oz.). For those who want to cut even more weight, Salomon’s X Raise GTX saves you 1 ounce for the pair, or you can go with a trail running shoe like the non-waterproof Altra Lone Peak 5 at 1 pound 6.2 ounces. And for a comparable hiking shoe with waterproofing, the Adidas Terrex Swift R2 GTX is the exact same weight as the OUTline. The Outline GTX is constructed with an Ortholite insole and an EVA midsole. The insole is known for its long-term cushioning, high-level breathability, and moisture-management qualities. It's also washable and lightweight. Not super comfortable when covering serious ground. The OUTline performs best on short day hikes on established trails. However, I didn't experience any issues with this. Now, I don't have the sweatiest feet around but they definitely sweat on warmer days and these shoes definitely kept my feet drier than a regular sneaker, for example. As with many other Salomon shoes the midfoot is narrow and the toe box has a precise fit, so if you've got wide feet give this one a miss. Presuming the form fits though the OUTline shoes feel cosseting, like an extension of the foot rather than an uncomfortable appendage. The only thing I can't really comment on, is how water-resistent they are. My feet got wet wearing them once, but asit was raining really hard and I was wearing shorts, it might just be that the rain seeped in from above and not through the fabric. I'll update this post if I ever happen to end up in a downpour wearing them again. I hope that won't be too soon :-) In addition, the outsole of these Salomon trekking shoes is a mixture of multiple ingredients. The recipe provides the necessary compounds for diverse surfaces. Salomon shoes often run narrow, but the OUTward is a bit more generous and a great match for those with average feet.
