So just a note of caution that this book might not be indicative of her entire body of work but I can’t confirm that personally. Briana Cole’s writing is so immersive that from the first chapter, I have to know what is happening with Devan as she receives news about her sister’s death and the circumstances surrounding this. She was further tested because her father had passed not too long before and her mother, in assisted living, was beginning to have fewer and fewer good days due to dementia. After everything I read and the things thrown at me, I was hoping for a better ending than the one I read. Lust, jealousy, betrayal, and desperation to survive drive this dramatic tale that will appeal to fans of contemporary multicultural romance authors De’Nesha Diamond, Victoria Christopher Murray, and Shelly Ellis. I could have read Behind Her Lives even quicker than I did, because I was busy and finishing up other reads, it is fast-paced! We don't learn the full story of her sister and why they lost touch for so many years until much later as the story is unravelling.Thank you to NetGalley, Dafina, and Briana Cole for the advanced copy of Behind Her Lives in exchange for my honest review.

Deven’s investigation reveals a chain of secrets and lies spiraling back decades that makes her question everything she knew about their relationship. Rob-as-Adele uses his astral projection power to spy on the affair from the start, and forms a plan. I sympathized with Devan, but at the same time, she let herself be taken advantage of by the people in her life.The show was also filmed in an unknown location in Scotland, with filming taking place between June and October 2019. I swear, every time I thought I had things figured out another little mystery would unfold and I'd be scratching my head again. That doesn’t explain though why the woman was found in Kennedy’s apartment or why Deven can’t locate Kennedy. The name works both for the psychological adultery thriller that this Netflix adaptation presents as, and for the supernatural story it’s really telling. While the story is action-packed there is an aura of uncertainty because the reader isn’t sure if they can trust the narrator or not.
