This is a fascinating realm with endless possibilities, and the relationship between Fortuna and Ollie adds another layer to Fortuna.

She recognizes her rash actions and decisions and even tries to rectify some of them and repair the relationships she splintered. But somehow, they don’t appall you in the slightest – they actually give you even more opportunities to “taste” the book’s darkly-appetizing flavor. Just a glimpse of Ian O’Connell’s face causes panic attacks, and Collith isn’t much help, considering he’s fighting demons of his own. The strong imagery and vivid depiction of the characters and setting also add to the intensity of the story.Gwyn, Viessa, Lyari, Mercy, and others are all well-layered, independent females who epitomize female strength, and I love their individual roles in the story. But is it saving indeed or is it just another sort of “kidnapping” of her thoughts, her will, and her life? There were times when I felt so bad for him and other times when I wanted to shake some sense into him. I have a feeling these characters and others, like Cyrus, Finn, and Adam, will be further explored as the series progresses.

The underground court, the supernatural beings, and the unusual society create a unique and intriguing setting. The men in Fortuna’s life are complex, secretive creatures with dark, connected pasts, and it’s fascinating to see their stories slowly unravel even if I don’t completely understand their motivations. And the battle between strengths and weaknesses inside her is developing in direct proportion to the events that cover her like an avalanche.Warning: there are scenes of abuse, whipping, kidnapping, and “poisonous” and destructive relationships. You won’t find another similar young adult fantasy that combines paranormal and real aspects so exquisitely in the urban settings. Once she catches the eye of a mysterious and highly attractive faerie, Collith, who saves her and promises to help find her brother at a certain cost. His motivations are so unclear, and I’m still not sure if he’s a benefit or a threat to Fortuna and Collith. It also makes for a fast-paced read with tons of action and intense moments and leads to some major jaw-dropping moments!

TRIGGER WARNINGS: These novels contain scenes or themes of rape, toxic relationships, suicide, domestic abuse, slavery. The world she created is absolutely amazing and I love all of the characters, even the ones that can't be trusted! She has received multiple awards for her work, and she graduated with a master’s degree in Creative Writing from Hamline University.However, when she enters the Seelie court, she realizes there are worse things than being a Nightmare. This is the third book in the series and isn’t a standalone, so I recommend reading the first two books before you read this one. Dive deep into another young adult fantasy that isn’t void of romance – “The Selection” by Cierra Kass. Of course, her relationship with Ollie adds to her constantly increasing confusion, and I’m interested to see how Fortuna reconciles her conflicted feelings. So Fortuna leaves her safe existence behind and descends into a world of glamorous creatures and deadly power.

Fortuna still acts without thinking, and sometimes she needs to stop and think about the ramifications of her actions.Kidnapped in the woods behind her house and taken to be sold to supernatural beings, Fortuna is saved by a dark and dangerous male. Fortuna does her best to hide it from other Fallen, because in the world of monsters, strength will get you killed. I have so many questions about Collith, Daron, Laurie, and several other characters, and I can’t wait to start the next book in the series! Fortuna is one of the bewitching character types you fall in love with immediately due to her impulsiveness, wittiness, and sarcastic nature. Her life is in turmoil and constant danger, she is riddled with guilt and fear, and she is burdened with ruling the Unseelie Court.
