About this deal

watching gwen grow from someone who assumed the worst and sort of outcasted herself to someone who was doing things out of her comfort zone and deepening her relationships.

gwen and art are not in love’ is the queer, medieval ya rom-com you didn’t know you needed in your life. gwen's character was annoying at first, she was judgmental, crass, and often felt like everything was targeted regardless of it was or not. Lex Croucher is a vlogger and podcast host who covers topics from beauty and books to feminism and animal rights. lex has this way of being so effortlessly funny in their work that it’s a joy to just turn the page and see what new hilarity awaits you.A queer Knight’s Tale(that should persuade you already) this romcom has a glittering cast of adorable characters, cheeky world-building (the royalty are so obsessed with their potentially magic lineage to King Arthur that there’s a court wizard) and more witty repartee than you can shake a sword at. Their scenes together made me laugh out loud, made me tear up a little, and made me smile with so much joy. If only she wasn't more interested in the only female knight in the realm; if only he wasn't more interested in her brother. With so much excitement for this book, I was worried it might not live up to my own personal hype, but somehow it managed to surpass all my expectations.

i fell in love with this rag tag group of stumbling kids who form a family within themselves, somewhere they truly feel seen and belong, and i feel so happy for them. And especially one that leaves no room for speculating: queer people truly have been here all along, even in the most unlikely of places, and we will always be here.

don’t like abrasive and dagger-tongued gwen whose self-imposed social isolation forms the plate of her armour? I really loved the ensemble cast of characters in this one - they were all very distinct personalities who all developed really well over the course of the book. locked in a frosty battle of wills with no detente in their foreseeable future, things come to a boil when they’re forced to spend time together for an entire summer at camelot until the day the wedding bells ring for them. Gwen and Art might be fictional, but their presence in history is anything but, and the reminder of their existence has me feeling both humbled and very grateful. Lex Croucher’s Gwen and Art Are Not in Love is chock full of sword-fighting, found family, and romantic shenanigans destined to make readers fall in love.It was heartwarming and exciting, filled with queer joy and amazing characters, and topped off with medieval Arthurian fun. before i go, i’d just like to say lady bridget le clair if u read this, i am free on thursday night. If they recognize the line at all, the only emotion it's going to evoke is puzzlement at why this novel is quoting a CW soap. sidney was so loyal, and you could feel his utmost love for art, who he stayed by the entire book and didn't once falter on his loyalty. The sense of humour is great (though the normal, innocent men joke was maybe a little too much for me) and it was eminently readable - I raced through this book in a couple of days (and stayed up far too late to finish it!

The internalised homophobia in this novel is high, and this is something that I don't think I expected quite to this degree. Even with rivals Gwen and Art throwing their shields down and actually growing on each other, it’s not enough to prepare for war—and just how much they’ve got that will be lost in the battle. Now it would be easy to focus on the romantic relationships in the book (there are plenty) but what really stuck out to me was the character development. I think this is why it fell slightly short for me, because I think I expected it to be something different than it was.
