It's herbacious and floral enough for spring AND citrusy and floral enough for summer, AND cheap enough to overspray, AND a fairly safe scent (unless someone hates the smell of citrus blossom, in which case you should probably avoid that psychopath anyways).

Longevity: I was genuinely surprised by how long Artisan Pure lasted on my skin – I could still detect its profile 6+ hours later whilst it hung onto my clothing for over 4!

John Varvatos Artisan Pure is inspired by the verdant and lush hills of Xalapa, Mexico and its vast coffee and citrus groves. Unfortunately, if you watch Fragrance Room's videos where women react to this, nearly all of them hate this fragrance and rate it below 4/10. I’m a big fan of John Varvatos’ work in the fragrance, and Artisan Pure is a major reason why – following the brief opening period and throughout most of its drydown, one is able to smell strong accords of lemon, thyme, and mandarin orange with a brush of musk, to finish. Unlike similar summer-centric fragrances, Artisan Pure is rather complex, often revealing notes that I thought had long-since disappeared.

If this is what the "flagship" of the John Varvatos brand looked like, it is not surprising to me that it is no longer with us. This makes JVAP a more floral springtime scent whereas Sauvage is straight up "blue" that everyone "expects" a men's fragrance to smell like. Even though it's nothing like Sauvage, it still gets compared to the king of citrus and the king of ambroxan. It has a light but unique smell that won't knock people down, which is a plus for me, which fits one aspect of my personality and is something I can just enjoy. Though the bigger portion often represents a better deal, the smaller is perfect for testing as perfumes can smell differently depending upon your natural body chemistry and how they mingles with your other skincare products.Oversimplifying, Sauvage EDT takes the lemon cleaner smell edge off with black pepper the same way as JVAP does with floral and herbal notes. To my nose, I don't get much citrus, but top to bottom it's very woody / green like being in a nursery with lots of plants.
